I friend of mine has a Sendero in 7mmRemMag, we shoot together at the local range. Now, this guy in his military years was one of 4 "select shooters" for some kind of elite corp; he can shoot very well!
I have seen him use my 6PPC with a bi pod and bag shooting the same groups I get from a front & rear locking rest that is not allowed for benchrest competition.
He can not get consistent accuracy from his sendero, I have seen 1 inch at 160meters from it, but usually it will do 1.5 even 2 inches at the range.
Is his gun a lemon or is that pretty normal for the Sendero?

All guns are different.I have owned several heavy barrel remingtons and I have a 7mm sendero and so does one of my hunting partners. Both of our guns shoot excellent but..they won't shoot the same load. The load we have for his gun will shoot .5in group in his gun and im lucky to get the same load to shoot 1.5 in my gun.Just keep trying different loads and im sure you will find the combination for your gun.

The senderos are normally very fine rifles, between three of us who shoot together we probably have 12-15 of them. I have not seen one yet that would not perform. However, you may have to do some load searching.
I would recommend using Sierra bullets, call their hotline and ask them for their accuracy load in the bullet weight you want to shoot.
And by all means check your action screws torque. This should help if it does not, it might be a barrel problem.
i don't know a lot about the Sendero's, but the long-range boys over at www.longrangehunting.com think it's one of the best factory rigs out there, and can be in the running for super long-range shooting with a little tweeking.

In some cases if your rifle is sound they can be very finicky in the bullet or powder they like best. I have a 30-06 that did not start shooting it's best until I used H-414 powder. It always gave me 1 1/2" groups with several powders and bullets I tried, but I did take many fine bucks with that rifle. While at the gun shop I picked up a can of H-414 to try in my 257 Roberts. While loading for the 257 rifle I loaded twenty rounds for my 06 with H-414 and went to the range. The third three shot load I tried in my 06 gave me a 1/2" group and I found my new load for my 06 using H-414 powder and it only took me twenty five years to find it. You may be in for a long hunt to find the load that rifle likes best or it may never shoot any better.
I would just reiterate what most everyone else is saying. My experience with my Sendero in .300 Win produces sub 1 inch groups at 200 meters. However, I had to work a little to find a load that would accomplish this.
I would ask what load you are using. Especially in reference to bullet weight and configuration, as well as powder and charge. I would also want to know how the barrel has been maintained and whether or not it has been broken in etc.
My guess is that you just need to tune your load to the rifle and you will find great accuracy.

I doubt it's a lemon. A lemon would be 5" groups one day, 8" groups the next at 100 yards. All the Sendero's I've shot have been pretty accurate and I suspect your friend's 7mag is no exception.
The 6PPC cannot be compared (accuracy wise) to a 7 mag. The magnum is much more overbore and has less inherrent accuracy compared to the PPC. Even Remingtons venerated 40XB-KS in any magnum chambering is only guaranteed to put 10 shots into an inch or better at 100 yards. Magnums are less accurate at these distances compared to non magnum calibers with higher efficiency.
One problem I have noted with Senderos is that not all of the HS Precision stocks they come with provide adequate bedding. My barrel maker reasons about half of the Senderos he rebarrels require a conventional bedding job to shoot there best. The interesting part of this is that about half shoot just fine with the factory bedding block with no modification. Just be sure to torque the screws down to a measured 65 inch pounds for both the front and rear screws and use high quality, rigid scope mounts with a high quality scope. Then do some load experimentation with good bullets like Bergers or Sierra matchkings and you'll have a better idea of the true potential of the rifle.
I have two (25-06 & 300WM) that I won't trade, because both shoot very good groups. Do check the bedding and the factory crown. Is your friend using handloads? These rifles respond to small seating depth adjustments. Once you hit the sweet spot for your barrel and a particular bullet, groups shrink dramatically.

I own a sendero in a 7mm stw. I can't find a bullet/ powder combo that won't shoot over a 5 shoot .75" group. I tried all different powders from IMR, reloader, and hodgson, along with different bullet weights in nosler bt's. Every one had sub minute groups and were all within 1 inch of the same point of impact. The best being just under1/2" outside diameter. The only complaints that I have is that the magazine is too short for the bullet. I am 30 thousanths off of the lands just to fit in the magazine. Also, I have a pretty rough spot in the middle of my barrel, when viewed through a bore scope. I can't complain about the accuracy of this gun though.

I have one in 7mm Rem Mag. With a good Leupold and a trigger job, I shoot .5 to .75 MOA all day with my best load. (168 Sierra Match King/H-1000 powder) Even factory stuff will hold about an inch or less at a hundred yards pretty consistently.
Buy one, you won't be sorry. Super Rifle.

I own the Sendero SF in .25-06 and it shoots sub moa with varmint bullets consistently. Chunk of change but really has been worth the money. Would sell it if I was flat broke and out of work.

I have a Sendero, 300RUM, that will outshoot any rifle I have ever fired. It is also the least fickle when it comes to bullets, powders, what ever!!! Anything w/ RL25 will shoot MOA or less....except my nemisis..the dreaded Nosler BT!!! Wont shoot!!..sakofan...

Just picked up a Sendero 25-06 this past week that somebody forgot was at the pawn shop! Been waiting since January for their time to expire!!! Took it home, checked the bore...pristine... loaded up 10 once fired 30-06 cases necked and trimmed with 56 grains of Reloader 19, Fed Match primers and 85 grain BT. 2 fouling shots and scope adjustments later, it did a .474 and then a .289 4 shot group! Then I was out of ammo but I think I will keep it awhile! Forgot to mention it also had a new V-16 Weaver on it when pawned! I hope 3 more run out of time next week!! GHD
