The other day I was south bound on I-75 here in Ohio and on the berm of the road was a groundhog that was as blonde as any California girl, pretty cool.

It probably just left the beauty shop and was on its way home... Big Grin

Seriously, though, while I don't know about the groundhogs in your area, other animals -- including rock chucks -- appear in various color phases. Everything from albino to melanistic phases can occur at times, and it does inded make for an interesting animal to look at.

Did you have a chance to get a photo of it?

billm, If you hunt them long enough and in enough different places, you will experience many shades of them. Yes the BIG BLONDE ONES really stand out in a green hay field! On the most recent hunt where the pics are posted here on down the page, we shot some lighter ones(blondes) some red ones, some gray ones and the run of the mill most common plain old brown ones. As the summer passes into fall and they put on their winter coats, they will get a look of silver to the hides and they really standout against the dark green of the fall grass fields. There are albino ones around also as well as one particular field I know of that has darn near black ones. I am going to get one of the black ones mounted whenever I get a good mountable one that the bullet stays in! And a good white one also pending the same bullet performance. GHD
