I bought a 221 Fireball in a relatively light Remy700 that would be easier to carry than my 222Rem 40X. I have recently entered a deal to purchase a 240 Wby. Do I still need the Fireball? What would the fireball do that the 240 will not do better?

What Heavy Barrel said plus the 221 Fireball won't be nearly as loud to shoot as the 240WHBY will. My 6mm with heavy loads (long action, bullet seated well out) will closely duplicate 240Weatherby loads, and with such loads is fairly noisy to shoot. If your shots will be under 300 yards, the Weatherby is unnessesary IMHO. Plus Weatherby rifles tend to be a bit on the heavier side, unless you lucked out and found a lightweight model.

Why not have both? My 223's are not in the same league as my 6mm Remington as far as HAMMER OF GOD factor (LOL that was for GroundHogDevastation), and as such, do not see the same duty. My 6MM takes over where the .223's leave off.

I was looking for a reason to keep it. The rifle I stumbled across is an H S Precision. Not sure which model it is. The owner is out of the country on Safari and will not be back until the end of Sept.

oh, the barrel life of the fireball would only be about 20 to 25 times longer than the 240 Weatherby....

the only reason to own a 240 Weatherby is if you want to have the ultimate 6mm Deer chambering...
beyond that...its useless in my book..

You can get close to 500 loads from a pound of powder with the Fireball.

The Fireball would be better suited if you were hunting near a populated area or even close to farm buildings. etc.

I know of a fellow that had an afternoon shoot at a farm with a 25-06 who was politely asked not to bring that particular rifle back the next time.

IIRC the .221 can be handloaded up around the zippier .223 velocities, also.

If you lose that .221, you're gonna ache all over 'til you get another one.

IMO with the .222 you really don't need the .221 but I would go with a .243 over the Weby due to cost.

My 222 is a Remington 40X with a 26 inch bull barrel. It weighs 14lbs! My 221 is a Remy 700 with a sporter weight barrel and weighs 6lbs. They have different purposes and I use them accordingly.

There's a place for both the 221 and the 240.
Don't own a 240, but it has to be king of the long shots.
When hunting in settled areas, a 221 would be king.

Actually...I was thinking sell the .221 to me and only keep the Wby!!!

Unless you have a 6mmRemAI built on a long action (seat the bullet out). Then you get the bonus of cheap brass, too.

Another potential consideration that I've not seen mentioned yet is barrel heat. If you're shooting a lot, you'll be waiting less for things to cool down with the fireball. Multiple guns also means less waiting....
