I am curious about the stock availabilties for the Savage. I like the trigger and the accuracy but I do not like any of their stocks.

So, the Q is who all makes an after market and preferably for the lowest amount of cheddar.

Thx

Mark D

Also one other question anyone out there done some serious shooting with a Shaw tube? I mean a lot of rounds to the tune of needing to change out tubes.

I was finally able to buy a .204 on sunday. I went with the Rem 700 VLS, thumbhole. Mostly cause I've coveted the Thumbhole stock since I held a XR100 last year, but didn't want a single shot. Plus I walked into Cabela's on sunday morning and my gracious wife said I could could spend $1000 and not a drop more. Roll Eyes My Total for Rifle, scope, rings, bases, Dies, Brass, bullets, molded carrying case etc. was $1150. Wish I could have spent another 200 or so on a scope but she wouldn't budge Big Grin

Anyway my point is I Took it out to the range Yesturday. The gun had been bore sighted but was OUT OF THE BOX Stock. I had loaded 20 rounds with 26 gr IMR 4895, for break in purposes. I ran a couple patches down the Barrel, then fired one shot at 100 yards, it was 5 inches high but dead on, so I fired another. It notched the first. Hey not bad I thought and fired another. It notched the second. jumping The first three rounds were in one clover leaf hole. I spent a few minutes cleaning and then knocked off 3 sub MOA 4 shot goups(minus one flyer that opened one group to a tad above MOA), I wasted the remaining rounds splattering some milk jugs I had brought along. NO load devopment no gunsmithing it looks to be an out of the box shooter.

Then I took it home and floated the Barrel, adjusted the trigger, and loaded up some trial loads, but the wind was howling and it snowed 3-4 inches so it was a no go today. Guess I'll have to wait and see if I ruined it. Wink

Ricky_arthur: Good for you and for the new Remington!
I have also been very pleased with the accuracy of both of my Remington Rifles in caliber 204 Ruger!
Like your Rifle mine needed no modifications what so ever to shoot very well indeed!
Now that you have some fire formed brass and a "feel" for your new Rifle I hope your accuracy continues to improve.
Which bullet was your Remington doing so well with by the way?
Long live the 204 Ruger!

Ricky_arthur: Nice group!
I have decided to go with the 32 grain Sierra Blitzkings in my 204's!
Several of my firends were using them last year in their 204's and they were awesome on a variety of Varmint species we harvested!
I have one of my 204's hooked up with them now and when I run out of 35 gr. Bergers in my other two 204's I will stick with the Sierras solely.
Thanks for the info.

I exploded a couple very small birds with the 40 V-Max at 315 yesterday.

I honestly think a raindrop would blow the V-Max up.

Lofter: I am in a state of ENVY!
You have the "204 Ruger Syndrome" awfully bad! In fact you are the sickest 204 Ruger Syndrome victim I have knowledge of to date!
I do know two other fellows who have 3 Rifles in caliber 204 Ruger (as do I!) but you are the first I have known with 4!
I nearly matched your level of "suffering" just yesterday (March 12th) when I sold a Remington 700 in caliber 270 Winchester. I had bought the Rifle less than two weeks ago for $250.00 and sold it for $375.00 at the Bozeman Gunshow. So I had $125.00 of "mad money" (profit) just BURNING a hole in my pocket! The only Rifle at that show that interested me was being offered for sale by the good folks from Shedhorn Sports (out of Ennis, Montana). It was a virtually new (returned) XR-100 in 204 Ruger that was being offered for sale at $669.00! I inspected the used Rifle and agreed with Rob Ballentine the owner that had owned it for a couple of months had fired it VERY little if at all!
Anyway in real cash dollars outlay I could have had that XR-100 in 204 for $525.00!
I already have the exact same Rifle and that is the ONLY thing that came between me and my fourth 204 Ruger Rifle!
If anyone is interested in that Rifle it was still for sale at 1:00 PM Sunday and the folks at Shedhorn Sports have a web site (for their store inventory) that will show all the Rifles they have for sale!
I think the website is - www.shedhornsports.com

Yeah you have it bad alright!
But come spring, summer and fall Colony Varmint time you will be "shinin" out there with your 204's!
By the way what model 204's do you have (was this last one)?
Long live the 204 Ruger!

first was the first one I saw available here. ruger 77 stainless compact. Then I got serious and bought the Cooper varminter. Saw a cz american and with tax and all it followed me home for $418. I was at a show last saturday only thing that kinda interested me was a 700 varmint in 25-06. Soooooooo I stopped by a gunshop on the way home and already knew they had a 700 limited edition in CDL friends of NRA edition. I bought it. one of a 1000. May not shoot it. Theeeeeeeeen I saw another CDL in 25-06 I was smitten twice and popped $50 put it on layaway. BTW I just got a company bonus for almost $800....So I declared it all madmoney jumping

Lofter: My Varminting travels today took me back through the town of Ennis, Montana and I stopped in to just "check up on" the XR-100 in 204 Ruger. It had sold late in the day Sunday at the Bozeman Gunshow!
He who hesitates IS lost!
Great move there declaring the bonus as "mad money"!
Best of luck on the new and coming Rifles being accurate!
Long live the 204 Ruger!

I love my H&R Ultra Varminter. I have not tried hand loads yet but with an extream spread of 18fps in a 5 shot string I can't complain. If I throw out the 3 shot then it drops to 10fps.

Theres a gunsmith somewhere in the States that specialises in cutting off the CZ mags so they are flush with the underside of the stock.

The finished result looks pretty good.

NZVarminter: Thank you for the site! I am actually on the verge of joining the ranks of the CZ Rifle owner types!
And I would opt for this smithies service to clean up the lines, looks, carry-ability and usefullness of the little CZ"s!
I mean that hang down clip really gets in the way AND on my nerves!
Thanks again for the tip.
