Any good loads for the 6mm AI, using 105 gr A-Max for long range, long like in 1000 yards at a prairie dog, my barrel is 1 in 8 and 27" long, I have H 4831, H1000 and my fire formed cases are 257Roberts +P.

I would start at about 49.0 of H1000 and 44.0 of H4831 and work up.

Probably will max-out around 51 or 52 on the H1000 and 48 to 49 of H4831.

My gun seems to like MRP @ 52.8.

REMEMBER: Every rifle is different, in general start with 6mm published by Hornady and work from there.

I have always wanted a 6mm AI. Shawn Heyden in the Calling all Coyotes series always makes the fur fly w/ his. Maybe I will venture over to the darkside and finally start a Savage project.............

Thanks DuggaBoye and mgoodrich, I tried H1000 and shot good and fast 3400 fps, pressure ok, yes I know about being careful, this is a very heavy rifle at 32#s, the action is a solid bottom Farley, "we" opened the bolt face from the PPC to 6.5x55 size just beacuse the extractor allowed it, so I can use it later on 6.5x55 AI.
I forgot, the barrel is 1.450" no taper in a barrel block.

Is the design of the 6mm AI the same as the 243 Rockchucker that Fred Huntington developed about 60 years ago? IIRC, Fred's was on the 244 case.

My long range 6mm Rem is not an AI model.. it is the regular built on a long action Model 700 Rem...

It's barrels is 24 inches long in a heavy magnum contour with a one in 7 twist..

I shoot 115 grain Bergers out of it with a charge of 46 grains of RL 19.. for an MV of 3250 fps...

the other two bullets are the Hornady 75 grain HP and the Nosler 80 grain Ballistic Tip... both get a charge of 47.5 grains of H 414, and have an MV in the Neighborhood of 3650 fps for the 75 grain HPs, and 3600 fps for the 80 grain Nosler B/tip....

With these two loads, this is the most accurate rifle I own...

I use 47.5 grains of IMR 4831 for 3400 fps and a 95 grain SMK.

Love shooting precision and long range. Big bores too!

Sorry to hear that. First which action you using(very important), second what components, like cases and primers and H1000 is maybe on fast side and won't give you the speed.
In the Sierra book is a good top load, especially if using factory action.

Tyler, what twist in your barrel?
The reason I ask is that I have a Shilen in 243 Win short chambered whit 1 in 10" twist, what I like to do is "stick" the 6mm AI reamer and turn it into a long range coyote gun using the 87 V-max and 90s up to 100 grains big game bullet for deer, using a long Rem action.

My 6mm AI has a 29 1/2" barrel and shoots 49.5 grains of R-19 with an 87 grain V-Max and gives 2" groups at 100 yards and 1" at 200 yards and about 1/2" at 400+ due to the over rotation and yaw. With 105 A-Max I use about 47.5 grains of R-22 and it will shoot .643" average grous size for five shots at 200 yards. This is my 100 yard load. I have a load that is above this but I'd work that up in your own rifle. Great cartridge, great bullets and great fun. By the way the 87 grain v-max will explode a rockchuck at 1/4 mile like a 223 at 100 yards. Enjoy!

My twist is 1-10". If you push them hard they'll stabilize.

Yep, I have a 1/10 also; the problem is I am, initially, pushing them to fast and they are unstable until they loose or shed some velocity then they stabilize. Since we don't even get this rifle out unless we are shooting past 300 yards it's no problem cuz that's where they start to really go to sleep and start shooting really good groups--I'm talking about the 87 grain v-max's now cuz the 105 A-Max's are good to go from the get go. dancing

Point of order: the .243 Rockchucker was on the 7x57 or .257 R case. It was out well before the .243 WCF or .244 Remmie. Sharper shoulder, but mild. I think I saw 28 degrees.

My buddy the gunsmith, now retired, built himself one, still has the reamer... but it only liked cases made from military brass which held as much powder as the .243 WCF which was much more saleable. Business always gets in the way. So he shelved the reamer and started stocking .243 WCF's and shooting them and selling them and didn't look back until the 6mm/.284 came out. Nuts about that for years. Oh well.
