I've tried both Reloder 22 and IMR4350 powders with my 6mm-284 but all of my data is at home. I'll dig it up tonight and post the info as soon as I can.

Well Hey I shoot a 6x284.I've experimented with most of those powders. So far H4350 is the best. I shoot the 87gr V-MAX exclusively. I use now 52.0 grs of H4350 behind the V-Max.for a MV of 3,600 on a semi warm day.Now it's winter here so Last Saturday that load produced 3500.Overcast sweatshirt weather.H4831 I didn't get the accuracy I wanted, its was ok. 54.0 H4831 for a MV of about 3,500. Winchester WXR with 54.0 gave about the same Velocity. H1000 produced poor velocities. In my rifle 1 in 10 twist Hart BBL 261/4"It was a safe Maximum load.I could go a little hotter but the groups start to open up and the bolt is a little sticky.Tale me about your rifle? Oh WXR powder is Reloader 22.On Cold days major velocity loss.I stick with Hodgen powder. Keep me posted, very interested in other 6x284 shooters and thier reports.

Ironworker, my 6mm/284 is built on a trued Remington 700 short Action BDL (started life as a 22/250 Remington 700 VS). It has a Pac Nor 30 inch Super Match fluted 3 groove 1:10 twist. Barrel is a Remington Varmint Contour, and has a Hollands competition recoil lug. Scope is a Leupold 8.5 - 25 x 50 LRT.

Just brought a Rifle Basix ERV3 trigger to replace the Remington one. For some reason, my Remington has an inconsistent pull which I find a little testy.

Tell me, what groups are you getting with H4350??

A "nice" wife takes priority over reloading data.

I have owned a 6/284 for about 5 months now. I have done some experimenting with it, but have not come up with any great loads. My rifle is an old custom built with a 1:12 twist, so I have to stay with the smaller bullets. I have had good luck with the 75 gr. and fair results with the 87 gr. I am at work now, but when I get home, I will post some of my loads, and what they did. I would be very interested in hearing more from othe 6/284 owners.

Michael, I will post some loads for you that I tested in the 6mm/284. Keep in mind these loads were safe in the gun tested, but we are dealing with a wildcat here. Also, this was some time back, the 87 grain V-Max did not even exist at the time.

Rifle tested was a Remington action with a 26 inch custom barrel. (The gun was bought used, no idea of what brand of barrel it was.)

Use these loads at your own risk, but this is what I found.

W-W case/ CCI 250/ 53 grains RL 19/ 85 Speer BTSP/ 3329 fps
W-W case/ CCI 250/ 54 grains RL 19/ 85 Speer BTSP/ 3385 fps

W-W case/ CCI 250/ 57 grains H4831/ 85 Speer BTSP/ 3614 fps

W-W case/ CCI 250/ 57 grains H4831/ 87 Horn BTHP/ 3531 fps

W-W case/ Fed 215/ 56 grains H 450/ 87 Horn BTHP/ 3517 fps

Once again, maybe these loads will be ok in your gun, maybe not. This is just what I found with the gun I tested. The load of 57 grains of H4831 under the Hornady 87 grain bullet was the most accurate.

Be carefull with those wildcats, but they are fun.

R F,

Thanks very much for your data. Hmmm, thats quite hot 57gr's H4831, I have seen 54gr's listed as maximum in my Nosler reloading manual.

I think I will look at the 4350 burn rate. There are 4 or 5 guys I have talked to who say that after all the other powders they have tried, this gives them the best velocity & accuracy.

I am having 3 weeks break over xmas / new year so this is going to be an excellent time to get my loads developed.

Many thanks,

Michael.

My rifle has a 22" barrel, Voerre action, 3-9X Vari X 11 leupold scope, is called Black Forest and was made by a company in Yakama, Washington. I do not know the barrel twist and it was a 243 Win until I had it rechambered to the 6mm-284. Here are some of the loads that I have tried over the years. Use them at your own risk.......

1. 56grs IMR 4350 70gr Ballistic Tip 3600fps
2. 55grs Reloder 22 90gr Barnes X (a bit warm but very easy extraction/bolt lift) 3450fps
3. 52grs Reloder 22 95grs Barnes X ?fps
4. 53grs Reloder 22 100gr Partition 3250fps
My average group size is 3/4" @ 100 yards.
I have some more data but not time to post it right now.
