I have a big intrest in cyote hunting and I have a lot of questions. I don't see very many cyotes around my house, but while hunting in the woods, I see sign of them, there droppings and tracks, but I only see naybe one or two a year and they are never in the same place. What should I do, just start to hunt around the sign. I recently bought a video and some calls, they are the quaker boy ghost series calls, are these good calls or should I try different ones. I have the howler and the rabbitt squeller. I don't have a lot of time to hunt in the day and I was wondering if hunting at night would be as productive. The only gun that I have to use is a 6.5x55. I know this is kind of big, and I am wanting to save pelts, but I was wondering if anyone knew a good bullet choice for this caliber. All your informations would be a big help. Also does anyone know of a good outfitter that I could schedule a trip with. I would like to hunt were I know that I would have a good chance of getting some cyotes.

I forgot about another rifle that I have, it is a 357 mag. lever action. I was wondering wich one would do the most damage and if this would work. If so what would be the max effective range of this rifle and what type of bullet I should use.

Well here are some thoughts , I think a rabbit distress call is a good start . My advise get some tapes , to learn what it's suppose to sound like . As for the howler , I feel that results can be mixed , due to time of year , and not knowing what area of the country you are in , there are different types and tones of howls as well as duration , howlers can be effective (very) however I think they are more specialized in thier use . As far as guns I'd chose the 6.5 swede if thats what you got . Load it with 100 grain Hornady's at around 3000 fps . All of the above aside find a mentor , someone who has hunted in your area for coyotes , talk with them , listen , and learn . This has been my greatest asset , the friends and family who have taught me to hunt , and continue to teach me to hunt . Good Luck !

Around the middle of Jan. coyotes will begin breeding and howling will become effective. February and March can be really good so practice on your howling.

Load a 140 gr. bullet to around 2500 fps for less fur damage, still got 225 yards of flat reach capability.
