Well, after a year in the field I think I'll keep her.

She's 9 for 10 with coyotes.(Not her fult) Here a pic. of her first kill. His coyote had made John and myself and was well on her way to another part of the county. When I first saw her she was 150+ yards and hulling. After settling my nerves and my crosshairs I waited for her to take one last look. Finaly, @ around 380 yards she came to a trot and took a 40gr. v-max to the ribs as she turned her head for one last peek.

Sighted in 1.4 in.high at 100 I just put the cross on her chest and let the hammer down. I got to watch the inpact in the scope before the recoil! Eeker

I'm thinking of having the same smith make up two or three more barrels. 2 for my Stevens 200 and 1 for John's Savage. This ones going to be wornout one coyote at a time, but the new ones will find some time to playing with little furballs in the alfalfa fields.

If anyone is iteristed in this little wildcat let me know via. p.m. and I'll send you parts#'s for Redding dies and bushings.(no custom dies are needed.)

one forum member sent me a dummy round of the 20/250 AI they had made up, with a 32 grain Berger on it...

For a dedicated coyote varminter, that round has a lot going for it....makes a 204 seem pretty boring...

is wind a real problem? i shoot p-dogs in the texas panhandle where the wind never stops. i love the foundation for your 20. i have a 22-250;a 250 savage and a 250ai. all shoot great but past 300yds i struggle with the wind.

Yep, that would be the one I sent you!
I hope you choose to have one made. When I first got into micro bores with the .204Ruger my first worry was how in the he!! was I going to load these little pills. After a cople rounds it became a piece of cake.

the jigger

Wind is always a problem at long range. There have been some good treads here on what make a good longrange cartrage in windy conditions, B.C. vs Flight Time.
As for the 20-250imp., flight time is extremely short with it's muzzle velocity of 4500f.p.s., and high b.c. of .275+ helps alot in strong wind. As a matter of fact, the only coyote missed with this rifle was because I held for more windage then it needed at 400yards in 40mph gusts.

Jigger,

thanks again.. yes I actually have it setting on the table beside my bed.. I keep looking at it, and that little bitty bullet, and how fat my fingers and thumb look in comparison...

If it do get around to it, it will be on a Savage action, so that I can just order and do the barrel...to be able to take it off and on easily....

I have ruled out a 204, and It is a battle between the 20 BR, the 20/250 or the 20/250 AI...

That and the 17 Fireball are the only two cartridges I don't have that I am considering add to the varmint battery... but after spending time with the 223 all the time.. It is hard to see where something smaller will not give me what I get out of the 223...

I talk myself into it, and out of it on the average of half a dozen to a dozen times a week... bewildered

What bullet are you using for yote in your 250 imp ?

seafire , do yourself a favor and actually TRY a 204, it's far from boring and gives up maybe 50-75 yards to the big wildcat case........

sdgunslinger,
I'm using 40gr. V-Max's
Actuly, the 20-250imp. has the .204Ruger by 133yards. At 100 yards the former is atill going 4080fps and at 300yards is above 3100 fps. Eeker I have two .204's and think highly of them.
