Ordered a Foxpro fx3 unit a week or so ago. I had the opportunity to try it out last weekend. It wasn’t the best weekend for calling. Friday evening I was not able to get out until about 5:30 PM. Made two stands. First stand, I called using a jackrabbit distress call. Called about 10 minutes when I saw a coyote skulking through the woods. I should have taken him at 100 yds. out but I was shooting a 17 remington and he was partially obscured by brush. Oh well, hind sight is 20-20. Second stand I was on top of a knoll in an open pasture. Called about 5 minutes before I saw a coyote at 200 yds or so. As the fog was rolling in and I was losing light, I never saw him again up close. But it was great to see two coyotes. I’ve only seen two coyotes on this property in the last four years. Seeing two in 30 minutes was sure encouraging.

Saturday was a washout due to rain and wind. Sunday evening I had a chance to call again. Made a stand and set up the fx3 about 40 yds. out. Used the jackrabbit distress call. I hadn’t had the call going a minute before I saw a fox coming in from about 150 yds. out. He was on a dead run. He came within 20 yds. of the call before he slowed down. He stopped to locate the sound and came in about another 10 yds. I nailed him there. This was first blood for my 17 remington and the Foxpro call.

Very Cool!

Doesn't look like the 17 did much damage. Looks like a great pelt gun. Was there an exit hole?

Keithv35,
Actually, it did much more damage than I expected. I shot this fox at 35 to 40 yds. I was using a 25 gr hornady hollow point clocking close to 4,000 fps. The bullet took the fox on the right shoulder. It left an entrance wound around two to three inches in diameter. If I were a pelt hunter I would think that would be unacceptable. I am not going to do a full body mount on this one as I already have one in process I am going to skin it out and see if I can't tan the hide myself. The pictures above were framed to show the fox, caller and rifle in their best light. The two pix that follow are the other side of the "coin" or should I say, fox.
Next time I'm calling fox I think I am going to use a 17 HRM or my 17 ackley hornet and a 19 gr berger at lower velocity.
