Newbie varmit questions: I've been looking for some good places to shoot prairie dogs in Eastern Arizona. Found a couple out around Vernon a while back, but I think they've all gone private and people are building houses out there now. Anyone have any good spots to share? Also, what are some easy ways to distinguish between Gunnison's pdogs and the protected black-tail?

Thanks,
Jason

I have hunted P Dogs when I was younger.

I have seen a few where I live in Holbrook AZ, but I really saw alot close to Peach Springs AZ, on a reservation, but they were the biggest I have ever seen.

Mostly here we have Jack rabbits, they are even eating the bark off of my apple trees.

That's easy! The dead ones are all Gunnison's....I've shot them at Seligman, on the 40 between Flagstaff and Kingman. Six or seven years ago when I was going over there, the game warden lived right there in town. His house was the one with deer and antelope antlers on the fence, can;t miss it. Nice guy, he told us where to go, gave us phone numbers, and laid out the shooting rules. Motels there are expensive AND the sleaziest I ever saw. Only restaurant in town was the Copper Cart and it was equally bad. I solved that problem by staying in Laughlin for $12 a night and eating $4.95 steaks. Hundred mile drive on to Seligman only an hour and a half. Played out this way. Drive from California to Laughlin, arriving about dinner time. Food and fun and a good nights sleep in a great room. Up at 5AM for a huge $1.99 breakfast, drive over to Laughlin. Hunt till afternoon, then drive back to Laughlin to repeat last evening. Next morning, back to Seligman or back to California, whichever felt better. Arizona sold non-resident license for $86 a year, or $30something for 5 days.
