I was looking at an article that was about a new Savage that was on the cover of Shooting Times... It will come in Two variations.. a Model 12 F and a Model 12 F/TR... It will come with a 30 inch stainless barrel, and its Muzzle Diameter will be substantially bigger than their 12 BVSS varmint Models.. The Stock is exactly like the Boyd's Varminter, with the vent holes under the barrel channel, and the barrel on the one on the article was fluted...stock was grey laminate.. The barrel will also come with a tighter chamber than the standard Savages and Varmint Savages... It will also come with a special accutrigger that will be called the Target Accutrigger... that can be adjusted I think it said, between 6 ounces up to 2.5 lbs... The receiver is also covered over the cartridge magazine, and the article said once a round is slipped in, that if the cartridge is not discharged it can only be removed, by pulling the bolt out ( must be a target/match sort of thing)... One model will initially be chambered in the 308, and the other one will be chambered in the 6.5 x 284 'Norma'.... It indicated that list price will be about $1250.. which means probably about a grand in the real world... I really think Savage is ready to give us another WINNER here! I can see this rifle not only being popular, but destined to be a real "classic" like the Model 70.... Home run for Savage

I am reading, when my eyes stay open, at bedtime in the newest "Shooting Times" about this rifle. One word comes to mind here: SWEET Haven't got through to much yet. (I pick it up when I head to bed and then I wake up a few minutes later ) But what I have read, it seems impressive! What I thought was a good indication of accuracy was the 100 vs 500 yard groups!!!! It proves what I have standed by for a long time; you can't judge accuracy from groups at just one distance!!! The smallest group they got at 100 was 0.25 and at 500 with the same set-up was 3.38! (granted 3 3/8" at 500 is a pretty good group but....) The largest group, 1.44, at 100, produced a 1.94 yep 1.94 at 500!!!!! The most impressive was 0.50 @ 100 and, hold on to your hats boys, 0.88 @ 500 yards!!!!!!!!!!!! The test was 5 3-shot groups averaged. They used RE15 and Varget for powders (for each bullet), Fed210 primers and for most, Lapua 308 brass. The bullets were 155 Sierra HPBT, 168 A-Max, 168 Hrndy HPBT, 168 Sierra HPBT, 175 Sierra HPBT and 178 A-Max. They used Hornady, CorBon and Federal factory ammo in the same weights! (I am thinking Smed needs to be a good boy this year and maybe Santa will put one under the Christmas tree ) For factory, there were two 0.38 groups at 100 and the largest @ 500 was, are you ready, 2.63". ______________________ Smedley ______________________ From Audacity of Hope: 'I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.' But, everyone knows that Savages are cheap pieces of crap that no serious shooter would own. I wonder if the author could duplicate those results. I tend to take articles with a grain of salt.

seafire, I recently purchased a Savage model 12 right bolt left port in 5.5X35 SMC. I have yet to shoot it. Savage does not list it but you can get it in their custom shop. And if you don't think they have a custom shop, just ask. Enough of us here in Wenatchee pestered them enough to build a few after we heard they bought a reamer. The stock is made my HS Precision and it has a large diameter stainless barrel. The rest of the guys have done all the leg work and got all the loads worked up on this round. Sage Rats beware.

If nothing else this rifle makes a darn good blue print to make one in any caliber you want...just need a Savage Action... and well, the 6 oz to 2.5 lb trigger might be a little hard to come by unless Savage will sell it as a part, for a retro fit.. But if Boyd's stock will take that heavier barrel diameter...one can put the same thing together in a 260 or 243, or 22.250, 223, etc.. There is a lot of fun potential.. but even with a Savage action, a Pac Nor Barrel, and a Boyd's stock, one can duplicate this rifle as a custom for whatever caliber they want, at the price of this one from the factory... however, I compliment the factory for paying MUCH more attention to the desires of Customers than the other major Manufacturers...

I'll buy the first one of the 6.5x284s that I lay my eyes on. Free men should not be subjected to permits, paperwork and taxation in order to carry any firearm. NRA Benefactor

Holy Crap!!! I just went to the Savage site and found the new rifles listed in their "New for 2007" news release. They look like fine rifles, alright. But now Remington may follow Winchester into the mist, and then what will we do? Savage will be the only American made production rifle, prices will go up, quality will go down, and another good thing disappears from the scene. I hope I'm wrong, but I've seen it too many times... like with Winchester and Remington... ______________________________ Well, they really aren't debates... more like horse and pony shows... without the pony... just the whores. 1955, Top tax rate, 92%... unemployment, 4%. Well Mike, I have me Savage actions, Winchester Actions, Remington Actions, Mauser Actions... Actually I am all set as long as I can get barrels made and stocks made when I feel the need for something else... Now if powder, bullets and primers would quit following the price of Gasoline...like thru the roof!

Seafire, Considering we havn't seen much of an increase in components over the past 15 years or so, I guess I can live with an adjustment...IF the adjustment stops about where it is NOW, and holds for another 15 years. Anything beyond todays prices is price gouging, IMHO. ______________________________ Well, they really aren't debates... more like horse and pony shows... without the pony... just the whores. 1955, Top tax rate, 92%... unemployment, 4%. Savage is one of the few companies that makes a real effort to give the customer what they want. I remember a year or so ago, on the Savage Shooters board, there was a thread on what type of "target" action would be wanted. Low and behold, Savage came out with a single shot right handed left feed action that was just what the people on that board wanted. You don't get that very much this day an age.

Savage is a great company with a great product. I own three of them. I just hope their success doesn't make them forget us wee folk. ______________________________ Well, they really aren't debates... more like horse and pony shows... without the pony... just the whores. 1955, Top tax rate, 92%... unemployment, 4%.
