Im tossing around the idea of buying myself a .17 HMR from Savage, Model 93R17 BTVS. The laminated wood thumbhole stock with a stainless heavy barrel.

I keep hearing good thing about the Mueller scopes and was wondering if this would be a good combo for the 17HMR. Im think about getting the 14x Mueller in the silver color of course.

I recently ordered a Mueller Eradicator to go on my .204 but Havent had a chance to shoot the rifle yet since im still in Korea.

CameraLandNY.com has some good prices on Pentax Gameseekers. Check them out.

Pentax Gameseekers

Not affiliated with them, just thought about putting some of these on my various rimfires.
I really can't justify having a $250-400 Leupold, Nikon, etc. on a $250 rimfire....lol

i've had good luck with the muellers, rather than the game seeker though I'd step up to the pioneer its only a little more and much clearer

Picked up the Mueller from a local privately owned store for more than fair price. Very happy with the finish and the clarity so far. We will see when I get it mounted and strech the legs of the little 17gr bullet.

I've no experience with that brand but I think a variable would be a better choice as would going with camo or matte finish for hunting varmints.I use a VX I 2-7 on my .223.

Thanks for the tip, Bernie. I had been planning on ordering one of the standard models in blue finish, but if I can get a couple of the stainless laminated thumbhome stock models for that price, I will get two! I will call them on Monday to see if they are still available.
Edit:

Rats, out of stock. That was one sweet deal. I may still have to get the laminated version. My wife thinks they are pretty. I will check Boyd's stocks and see if they offer that laminated stock.

Bullets are pretty worthless. All they do is hang around waiting to get loaded.

Brando-I wanted the same rifle, on sale @ Dick's Sporting Goods for $349. w/ a Bushnell 3X9X40. Hesitated, went back next day and it was gone, BUT I got the same rifle in blue for $299.! As is it is very accurate, putting Hornady 20gr EXPs under 3/4" all day long. If I was to add another scope, I agree with posters above, Pentax has some great deals on some great glass.

My vote is for buying the best glass you can afford. The Vortex 2-7x32 for $169.95 at SWFA would be the clearest optic available for that kind of money.

I looked through a Pentax Gameseeker today. It was a 4-14x50 with the Green inlay Gameseeker around the objective. Very cloudy lens IMO. I am questioning its origins because it did not have the typical arched objective housing typical of the entire Pentax line.

Leupolds are always clear optics even their VXI's.

flippy,I have to disagree to some degree with your statement about the glass cost/rifle cost. The 17HMR's are so inherrently accurate that they deserve the best glass youcan put on them to get all that they can deliver. I have no problem at all with 4.5-14 Nikon Buckmasters on them and even have the 6-18Nikon Buckmasters on one. As far as "bang for the buck" in optics..........NIKON trumps!! Unless you took advantage of grtfuldougs'specials on the VORTEX 6.5-20's for $249.95 he was running a couple monts ago. Leupold Riflemans and VX 1's.........give me a Nikon Buckmaster of=r even the Pro-Staffs any day over them..........unless you're selling them and can get somebody who has to have a Leupold to buy it! tu2 +1!

Gotta agree; my Savage 17HMR has a straight 12X Burris on it and IMO that's a good way to go. w/o too much wind and within reasonable range you can pick the exact spot where that tiny pill arrives ......
