I use a DPMS A4 with a Midway (probably DPMS) SS 16" bull with a 1/8 twist, chrome bolt with a free floating tube and a Harris bipod with a Redfield 4-16X AO. It will shoot under half MOA to 200yds and is hell on crows.

I haven't used it much since I got to using the .204...now there is a project....a heavy barrel AR in .204!!...Hmmmmmm!!

I have a RRA 20" Varminter upper, with a SS
Wilson 1:8 twist barrel. It easily gets under
.5 MOA, with it's(my) best 5 shot group right
at .3 MOA. I have had a number of .2 MOA 3 shot
groups, but I keep blowing one shot, in 5 shot
groups, to open the group up ot .3 or .4 MOA. Roll Eyes
It is more accurate than I am.

I will say that this heavy barrel upper trashes
the balance of the AR-15, but for colony
varmints, or bench shooting, it is an excellent
addition to the small bore rifle battery.

Dr B, you are going to love the AR as a varmint rifle. I shoot a Colt Delta 24" 1 in 9 twist and Pdogs have gone to dogie heaven from as far away as 1106 (Lasered.) The user friendly nature of this accuracy platform is amazing, and the .223 can do it with proper loads and holds. Enjoy your good fortune.

Clay I here what you say, and I have heard that he is definately the man for the AR. Had a friend an LEO type who when pressed for time had excellent service from the gentleman, and quality is as you say unsurpassed.

I'm limited here in Commiefornia to a fixed magazine of no more than 10 round capacity so I have to build my own.

I'm going to go with a STAG Arms flat top, LEFT handed upper with a 1:9 twist, 20" barrel for mine.

I shoot a fair number of groundhogs with a 14.5" bushmaster A2 with the y comp. Have an IOR scope and shoot 62gr Barnaul hollow points. Works great.

To show how stupid CA's gun laws are:
I can buy the AR-15 style pistol with the detachable 10 round magazine, pistol grip, bayonet lug, etc. but if I put a detachable clip on a 20" smooth barrel, pistol gripped, RIFLE, I would be a felon.

Try the best of both worlds. An AR-15 RRA varmint with 24" heavy brl in .223 and switch uppers to a 24" White Oak heavy varmint chambered in 204 Ruger when the 223 gets hot. Now that keeps you on the Pdogs. Sorting the brass after a 3 day shoot in SD can be boring though.

Fjold,

Maryland isn't any better....#1 son wanted a 1911 frame to build a target gun for Christmas and it is impossible to buy them in Maryland. You can buy the entire gun, but not the frame...go figure!!

Kolt45,

How do you like the 204 upper? I'm sorta thinking about doing that with a 20" heavy barrel. I can't find high volume shooting here so brass sorting is not a problem. I am forced to take running shots at a fox from time to time and I like the AR in those cases. With the 32 gr loads I never worry about them bouncing off anything. Wish we had a pd problem here that I could help out with once in awhile...I wouldn't mind helpen!!

Hello, The 204 is a great caliber on its own but is just outstanding on a AR-15 platform.
Another super fun platform for Pdogs is the
AR-10 using an upper chambered in 22-250
