Okay you snow bound varmint hunters...

I think I need a predator style rifle, and the application is for coyotes in the snow bound cascades and possibly eastern oregon ( if I can afford the gas to get there Roll Eyes)

So I was checking out the Bell & Carlson web site and was looking these over....

Need your snow bound guys input on these...

Still deciding on the rifle action, and caliber.. but these are orderable in a wide variety of combos, so that is not an issue..

thanks gang...

or

you can also get your entire rig camoed up like the stock is....which I was seriously thinking of doing...

so your guys input would be handy, before I take the big plunge and end up with something I regret...

cheers

I just recieved a B&C Carbelite stock for my Win M70 SA .243. The barrel channel needed to be widened at the camber and there was some other minor fitting. It took about a half hour to complete. The barreled action and floorplate both fit very snug in this stock. I am going to shoot it and if it goes well I wont bother to epoxy bed the recoil lug. Too bad I didnt get one in the camo w/brown pattern on your post!

I've had good luck with several B&C stocks until the very last one, a camo version for my Savage FP10 in .308 WCF. The barrel channel did need to be opened, and there was some other minor fitting required around the trigger. But the main problem was that the overall barrel channel was not straight. I actually had to shim the action on the right side to get the barrel floated. I both called & e-mailed B&C several times and never got a response from them. The gun functions fine this way, but if I decided to sell it, I'm sure most folks would balk because of the stock situation.

With that being said, the stocks are quite durable and have served me well.

I like a sporter barrel in my calling rifles. If you are going with a Savage, best bang and accuarcy for the buck IMHO, try the Stockade stocks. They have stocks that aren't all made for heavy barrels. They custom paint them to your specs.

Keep us posted on the new project. I don't know how you get the time to hunt. Big Grin

For the savages I second the vote for stockades. I have one now and one on order, they are very good with one tough paint job. Have one B&C duramaxx and it was also OK, not as light but bedded it worked well for the application. White with a dark cobwebbing is nice for the snowy areas in winter varmint shooting. Stockade offers a more custom approach with two thickness pads and different barrel channels and designs.

Snowbound......guess that describes things pretty well when you need snowshoes to get fifty yards away to the outbuildings......
