Have any of you guys used 55 grain ballistic tip on coyotes? If so how is he pelt damage? I'm shooing them out of an AR (223) just wondering to expect.

In a .223 I go with 50 or 55 Gr Hornady SPSX a lot more cost effective and just as good in the performance department.

Another low cost, highly effective bullet, that I find even more accurate are the Speer 50 grain TNT and the Speer 52 grain HP.....

Any of the match 52 and 53 grain bullets also do quite well for that kind of application...I prefer Sierra Match Kings over the Hornady Match bullets, but the Hornadys also do a very fine job in the accuracy dept...

The speer 52 gr HP is my all ime favorite coyote bullet. This gun doesn't shoot it very well. The Sierra matchkings are accurate but terrible on pelts, they make big holes. I usually don't get an exit hole wih the speer. Never shot the other bullets mentioned. This gun shoots the nosler BT's very good, I'm just afraid they will also make big holes.

Have used the 55 BT's @ 3300 fps in my FP10, cal. 223 on a number of coyotes and have not noticed any undue fur damage. We do not save the pelts, however.

The Ballistic Tip has is a solid base design, which means a thick hunk of jacket material is left at the base of the bullet. This solid base helps the bullet penetrate more deeply than its otherwise rather frangible design would allow it to. I haven't used this particular bullet on coyotes, but I would be surprised if it did not exit on most shots.

My fav in my Mini-14 is also the Speer 52gr HP. The Hornady spsx came apart in flight out of both my mini and the .22-250. I haven't used them in anything else since then (early 90's) except a .223 Contender. They worked like a charm out of it.

I tried 50gr Nosler BT's out of the .22-250 with mixed results. At a distance they were fine. Up close not so good. I actually get less damage from a 75gr Hornady out of my .257 Roberts sometimes.

I loaded up some 40gr Speer fbsp's for the mini with BLC2 and they were not as accurate but they didn't blow a big exit hole either. If they'll hold together, the spsx and blit'z bullets would be ones to try for saving fur if the Speer 52 won't shoot. Nate
