My buddy is going to help me reload some 204 for my praire dog trip. Can you guys post some of your pet loads for the VLP? He's got all the equipment but I'd like to avoid having to buy 10 different powders, primers, cases etc to find something that works well. I'd like to hear from you VLP owners to see if I can find common components among your favorirte loads in this rifle. I'm leaning towards the 39 g Sierra Blitzkings as I'd like to go a little heavier than the 32 g. He also has a lot of Winchester brass so I'd definitely like to use it. Thanks

My favorite load with the 39 gr BK's is with 25 gr of RL-10X. Remember to start lower and work your way up. This load works very well in both of my Savage 12's. A VLP and a BTVSS. Savage Vaporizer

I'm seeing that recipe from a number of folks with VLP's. What primer and brass are you using? Any idea on what velocity you're getting? Thanks..

I use CCI 450 magnum primers, winchester or remington brass, and an OAL of 2.39 I don't have a chrony so I imagine speed would be about 3750 to 3800 fps. I have also had good success with 27.5 gr of H-4895. Savage Vaporizer

In my Savage: 39 BK is the second most accurate bullet. 27.6 gr. IMR 4895, WW brass and a Rem 7 1/2 BR primer. The 40 gr. Berger is more accurate, but at 100 yds it is hard to see the difference. Same load as above. In mine I found two things really made a difference in accuracy. The primers and the COL. Jim Please be an ethical PD hunter, always practice shoot and release!!
