NIGHTLY Closing Ceremony

The Wagah border is the only road linking India and Pakistan. And every night, the border is closed with a fascinating ceremony.

Why can't we do that with the US-Mexican Border? And shoot every sorry a-- that tries to cross after dark.

Me thinks there's a bunch of sore flat feet on both sides of the border.

Wasn't quite that fancy when I crossed there in 1971. Just as crazy though.

I don't think you'd want to screw with any of those bad boys though...

It is good to see a proper ceremony from time to time by true fighting men. We hire about two thousand of either army, and put them on our border. I bet there's no illegals coming across alive on their watch.

Interesting comments.

The Indian Army has regiments which are named after regions and sometimes after castes or sub-ethnic groups.

The Sikh regiment was a famous one with a lot of history in winning battls. This one was disbanded after the mutiny in the 1980s as a result of the Golden temple being attacked to flush out terrorists. They were not known for their defense under attack.

The Kumoan Regiment consists mostly of people from the Western Himalayan mountains - 4000 to 14000 feet elevation. Very tough but kind people. They are great for defense but not for winning in attacks!!

People from Southern India are found more in the Air Force as their mental aptitude suits better. This is just a statistical trend & not an absolute.

The Gurkha of Nepal are also legendary fighters. They are found in the British, Indian & Brunei Armies. Brunei is a tiny oil rich country in the Island of Borneo & the Sultan has a personal guard of Gurkha soldiers.
