I would like to see some more accurate discriptions of guns. For example , today's Daily Mail. DM - "machine gun toting robbers" NYPD - " may have been carrying automatic weapons , pistol whipped the owner " Witness - "They had guns . Big guns ."

Off + on this subject;I posted on the Books Forum about A young author named Brad Thor. I have bought all his books + they are good, but became aware of the accuracy in description.Nothing so pisses me off when the hero releases his safety catch on his colt navy revolver in ca. 455. PLEASE! It ruins the story for me;but then again I ruin the movies foe everyone else when I spout out "That rifle was'nt built then,etc.,etc.,etc. et al. Never mistake motion for action.

Who was that writer who wrote some popular fiction, in which he had a hero who goes around shooting criminals. He used a 460 Weatherby Magnum - because it is the most powerful rifle in the world. He used to make several shots at several hundred yards in 2 seconds or so!! An increasing thing also seems to be adding "the same caliber and type used by snipers".

Let's face it guys, the replacement of good schools by bad entertainment media chasing after the almighty $ is killing the few remaining vestiges of truth, accuracy, and knowledge on our continent. Sensationalism and greed are rampant.

Short Answer: YES Long Answer: Look around us, corporate (especially in financial statement and product advertising), and the ever present Administration and Congressional lies/smoke/fantasies everywhere. My country gal's just a moonshiner's daughter, but I love her still.

Mack Bolan the "Executioner"?

Mack Bolan, yes... But he started his career with a 444 marlin, with which he popped a golf ball at 500 yards in one novel. These were the seventies, I was just a teenager, but I was not impressed with the author's knowledge of real-life ballistics, even though the stories were quite readable! Philip

A few years back there was an article in the local paper about a cannon that is in one of our local parks and whether or not it was a proper item to have on the playground. The idiot journalist who covered it wrote the following statement, or at least what I remember it to be: "The WWII vintage cannon that was used during WWI....."

Reading through these posts I'm reminded of a cover of a paper bake western . A cowboy firing a cap and ball revolver ---and the empty caes coming out of the gun like a semiautomatic would !!
