I recently had the opportunity of helping the heirs of a fellow sportsman/shooter who passed away recently. The widow was left with an array of firearms and ammo. It was all just mediocre stuff, Walmart quality things. I advised as well as I could as to how to sell it. The local sporting goods store made her a reasonable offer, and I advised she take it. I did value the inventory before making the recommendation. She could have gotten more by taking things to the local arms show, but the time and hassle wasn't worth it.

My time was minimal, but I was pleased that I could provide an honest opinion. I would like to think that my wife, assuming that she survives me, would receive the same consideration. What say you? Would you take the time to assist a widow? My experience here on AR suggests that the members would be there.

I'm thinking everyone on this list would do the right thing and help out anyone with an honest opinion of the value of property left on an estate.

That being said, we can help our survivors by leaving a list of worth of our valuables, no matter what they are. Give away to the ones you want to have something. I would think that one could get some enjoyment in watching someone get some use of something we valued!

Good thoughts, Robert. At age 69, I'm thinking that some of my left hand big bores might best go to some young Ph's. Will have to think about how to make that happen.

A 458 Lott on a LH Win action, smithed by Ed Lapour, ACGA member. Has proper NECG sights, fully bedded, etc. And a 375 M70, also tuned and modified by Lapour. Both are accurate and totally reliable. Both have Leupold QR mounts. Both have factory stocks with some African scars, just first class working rifles.

I would heartily recommend having a list of all guns INCLUDING lists of dies, mold, sights, and anything else that goes with each gun. Last fall I had the job of sorting through a dear uncles lifetime collection of hunting, gunsmithing, and fishing related items to include over thirty fine blackpowder guns, both original and custom ones built by himself along with all the molds, gunsmith tools, boring bits, rifling heads, and a whole pile of other fine trinkets. If I and a good friend of his hadn't been there, many items would have been lost to a dumpster. As it was, many items will live on by people that he meant a great deal to and will still see the woods in the fall. I hope I did many of those items justice and they went to people he would have wanted to see have them. I know I'll be hunting this fall with a Kentucky rifle he built in the early 70's that he put my name on...and I'll be thinking of him when I do so.

You did a good thing for your friends Wife.I have everything I own priced a realistic sales price for when I take the big dirt nap.In fact I have been selling stuff pretty steady the last few years except what my Son wants.Hopefully its all gone by that time.

I created a spreadsheet in a word document that assigns an inventory number to each toy in my collection... it lists purchase price, where I bought it, when I bought it, scope, rings, and a good description...since I don't have any immediate family, all of my toys are in a trust, to go to a local boy's ranch... there are just a few with special instructions to go to some special friends....
