This is my second Harley, fourth motorcycle:

My other Harley was a 1996 Heritage.

This one is much, much nicer. Dual Cam engine, 96 cu. in. is smoother, more powerful. Now we're waiting for better weather. Rode it 250 miles yesterday, into town for service. It snowed!

I went the other way last May. Sold my 95th Anniversary FI bagger, and went to the denim Fat Boy LO.

Fine Ride, my congratulations!

+1 Rothke

Some buds and I are gonna do 10 days starting in Portland, OR, down to Reedport then up the coast then up to the Canadian Rockies, back down to Kalispell and then to Spokane Wa. Going early September. Should be a ball.

Cold, wet going in (for a maintenance appointment, NOT for some sort of "pleasure ride"). Then the weather seemed to clear and warm up. The return ride I opted for a more inland route and hit a patch of snow in the coast range pass. Slop on the road, but the road surface still visible. I put on the Emergency Flashers, pulled to the shoulder and drove 20 mph for about five miles.

Ahhhhhhhh, but I bought some Harley rain gear and found a DOWN SKI PARKA at the local thrift shop for $7.00 USD!

Riding in I was saying to myself, "I'm about a down ski parka short of being warm here!"

Warm and dry heading back, but still sloppy wet, nasty on the road.

Today I bought a pressure washer at CostCo -- for the bike, the truck and the starling poop on the side of the house.

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PORTLAND OR
200 PM PST THU FEB 17 2011

.SYNOPSIS...COOL AND SHOWERY WEATHER WILL CONTINUE THROUGH TONIGHT AS
A COLD UPPER LEVEL TROUGH MOVES THROUGH THE FORECAST AREA TONIGHT.
SNOW LEVELS WILL REMAIN LOW...LOCALLY LOWERING TO SEA LEVEL AT TIMES
IN HEAVIER SHOWERS. A COLD UPPER LEVEL LOW WILL MOVE SOUTH OVER THE
WATERS TONIGHT AND FRIDAY...POSSIBLY BRINGING SOME SNOW TO THE
COASTAL AREAS. SHOWERS WILL DIMINISH FRIDAY AND SATURDAY OVER
INTERIOR PORTIONS. ANOTHER COLD UPPER LEVEL LOW WILL MOVE OVER THE
AREA EARLY NEXT WEEK.

&&

.SHORT TERM...SATELLITE IMAGERY SHOWS WEAK DISTURBANCES ROTATING
THROUGH THE COLD UPPER LEVEL TROUGH OVER THE NE PACIFIC AND INTO THE
PACIFIC NORTHWEST THIS AFTERNOON. DOPPLER RADAR CONTINUES TO
SHOW SCATTERED SHOWERS...ESPECIALLY NEAR THE COAST AND OVER THE
MOUNTAINS. COLD AIR ALOFT CONTINUES TO RESULT IN LOW FREEZING
LEVELS AND MIXED PRECIPITATION...AS LOW AS SEA LEVEL.

SHOWERS...ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS NEAR THE COAST...AND SNOW POSSIBLE
DOWN TO THE LOWEST ELEVATIONS WILL CONTINUE THROUGH THIS EVENING.
SHOWERS WILL BEGIN DIMINISHING TONIGHT AS THE UPPER LEVEL TROUGH
MOVES INLAND.

THE COASTAL FORECAST FOR FRIDAY IS STILL A LITTLE UP IN THE AIR. .
MODELS ALL BRING AN UPPER LOW SOUTHWARD OFF THE WA/OR COAST FRIDAY.
HOWEVER...THERE ARE MINOR DIFFERENCES IN THE EXACT PATH THE LOW WILL
TAKE...HOW CLOSE TO THE COAST. THESE DIFFERENCES CAN MAKE MAJOR
DIFFERENCES IN THE COASTAL WEATHER. IF THE LOW IS CLOSE ENOUGH...THE
PRECIPITATION WILL FALL ON THE COAST AND POSSIBLY THE COASTAL
RANGE...OR THEY COULD GET NOTHING. THE OTHER PROBLEM IS WHETHER THE
PRECIPITATION WILL FALL AS RAIN OR SNOW. SOME MODELS ARE KEEPING
IT TOO WARM ALONG THE COAST FOR SIGNIFICANT SNOW BUT SOME HIGH
RESOLUTION MODELS PRODUCE UP TO HALF AN INCH OF SNOW ON THE COAST
DURING THE MORNING ON FRIDAY. GIVEN THE SOUTHERLY LOW LEVEL FLOW
SHOWN ON ALL MODELS...SIGNIFICANT SNOW ALONG THE COAST LOOKS UNLIKELY
AT THIS POINT. HAVE ISSUED A SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT ADDRESSING THE
POSSIBILITY OF SNOW ON THE COAST...AND WILL NEED TO WATCH AS THE
SITUATION DEVELOPS.

THE SHORTWAVE WILL MOVE INLAND OVER NORTHERN/CENTRAL CALIFORNIA
SATURDAY WITH MOST ACCOMPANYING PRECIPITATION SOUTH OF OUR AREA BY
THEN...POSSIBLY JUST BRUSHING OUR SOUTHERN ZONES.

ANOTHER COLD UPPER LEVEL LOW DEVELOPS IN THE GULF OF ALASKA SATURDAY
AFTERNOON AND STARTS TO DIG SOUTH OVER THE WATERS...APPROACHING THE
OREGON COAST LATE SUNDAY WITH RAIN SPREADING ONTO THE COAST BY SUNDAY
AFTERNOON. LIKENS

.LONG TERM...LATEST MODEL RUNS CONTINUED TO TREND FURTHER OFFSHORE
WITH THE LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM EXPECTED TO PASS SOUTH INTO CALIFORNIA
FOR LATE SUN/MON. SO THE LOW ELEVATION SNOW THAT APPEARED TO BE
POSSIBLE WITH THIS SYSTEM EARLIER THIS WEEK NOW LOOKS UNLIKELY. IT
STILL APPEARS THAT SOME PRECIP COULD AFFECT THE CWA...WITH THE BEST
CHANCE FOR COASTAL LOCATIONS. IT LOOKS LIKE THINGS COULD GET
INTERESTING AGAIN TOWARDS THE MIDDLE OF NEXT WEEK. AN UPPER LEVEL
TROUGH IS MODELED TO DROP DOWN OUT OF CANADA...BRINGING A QUITE COLD
AIR MASS FOR THIS LATE IN THE WINTER. THE 12Z RUNS OF THE ECMWF AND
GEM LOOK FAVORABLE FOR A LOW ELEVATION SNOW EVENT. HOWEVER...A LOT
WILL DEPEND ON THE EXACT TIMING AND TRACK OF THE TROUGH. SINCE IT IS
STILL 7 DAYS OUT...THERE IS PLENTY OF TIME FOR THINGS TO CHANGE. BUT
THIS FEATURE WILL BEAR WATCHING OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS. JFP

&&

.AVIATION...A COOL UNSTABLE AIR MASS REMAINS OVER THE AREA AS AN
UPPER LEVEL TROUGH PERSISTS OVER THE NORTHEAST PACIFIC AND THE
PACIFIC NORTHWEST. A MIXTURE OF VFR AND MVFR CIGS ACROSS THE AREA
THIS AFTERNOON WITH MORE AND MORE VFR EXPECTED THROUGH THE
REMAINDER OF THE AFTERNOON AND EVENING AWAY FROM SHOWERS. STILL
SOME BRIEF HEAVY SHOWERS AND SMALL HAIL POSSIBLE INTO THE EVENING
WITH MVFR CONDITIONS. CLOUDS MAY SCATTER OUT THIS EVENING WITH
LOSS OF DAYTIME HEATING AND WEAKENING ONSHORE FLOW. COULD SEE SOME
PATCHY FOG LATE TONIGHT AND FRIDAY MORNING OTHERWISE AREAS OF LOW
MVFR CIGS POSSIBLE LATER TONIGHT. AT THE COAST EXPECT MVFR
CONDITIONS AS A LOW DROPS SOUTH OFFSHORE BUT ITS FRONT REACHES THE
COAST. SNOW SHOWERS ARE POSSIBLE ALONG THE COAST AS WELL AND IF
THIS MATERIALIZES CONDITIONS WOULD DROP TO IFR. EXPECT LESS IMPACT
INLAND FRIDAY.

KPDX AND APPROACHES...A MIXTURE OF MVFR AND VFR CONDITIONS THIS
AFTERNOON WITH MORE AND MORE VFR LATE TODAY AND THIS EVENING AS
SHOWERS BEGIN TO EASE. MOSTLY VFR FOR A GOOD PART OF TONIGHT BUT
MAY SEE SOME PATCHY FOG OR BRIEF MVFR CIGS TOWARD MORNING ON
FRIDAY. PT
&&

.MARINE...WINDS ARE BELOW SMALL CRAFT LEVELS THIS AFTERNOON. A
SURFACE LOW DROPPING SOUTH OFF THE COAST TONIGHT AND FRIDAY WILL
TURN WINDS SOUTHERLY AND LOOKS LIKE THEY WILL MAKE LOW END SMALL
CRAFT ADVISORY LEVELS. ONCE THE SURFACE LOW PASSES TO THE SOUTH
FRIDAY NIGHT AND SATURDAY NORTHERLY WINDS KICK IN AND THESE WILL
MORE EASILY EXCEED SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY LEVELS THROUGH SATURDAY.
SEAS ARE BELOW 10 FT BUT APPEAR THEY WILL RISE ABOVE 10 FEET
AGAIN FRIDAY AFTERNOON AND PERSIST INTO SATURDAY EVENING. ROUGH
COLUMBIA RIVER BARS ARE NOW CONFINED MAINLY TO A FEW HOURS AROUND
THE EBB TIMES. PT
&&

.PQR WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...
OR...NONE.
WA...NONE.
PZ...SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY FOR WINDS FROM 10 PM THIS EVENING TO NOON
PST FRIDAY FOR COASTAL WATERS FROM CAPE SHOALWATER WA TO
CASCADE HEAD OR OUT 60 NM.

SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY FOR HAZARDOUS SEAS FROM 1 PM FRIDAY TO 3
PM PST SATURDAY FOR COASTAL WATERS FROM CAPE SHOALWATER WA TO
CASCADE HEAD OR OUT 60 NM.

SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY FOR WINDS FROM 1 AM TO 3 PM PST FRIDAY FOR
COASTAL WATERS FROM CASCADE HEAD TO FLORENCE OR OUT 60 NM.

SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY FOR HAZARDOUS SEAS FROM 1 PM FRIDAY TO 8
PM PST SATURDAY FOR COASTAL WATERS FROM CASCADE HEAD TO
FLORENCE OR OUT 60 NM.

SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY FOR ROUGH COLUMBIA RIVER BAR UNTIL 7 PM PST
THIS EVENING.

SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY FOR ROUGH COLUMBIA RIVER BAR FROM 2 AM TO 7
AM PST FRIDAY.

You are the man here. It was 63-degrees Tuesday about 4pm when I got home from the VAMC. Stuck the Jag in the garage and went for a ten mile ride here in town. Lotsa bikes out.
That night it started to snow. Snow & melt, snow & melt, the last 48 hours or so.

Congrats again on the new arrival.

Looked out across the bay on the way home. Squalls coming in across the bar and from the south. To the west the coast range was white w/ snow. It never rained here, but damn it was cold!

I greased my boots, gloves, and stowed the new rain-gear in the saddle bags. Thought about sitting on the seat in the garage and listening to the radio . . . Cool

Saturday is supposed to be partly sunny, but cold -- which puts the screws to crossing the pass into town for the Paradise Harley Davidson "Saturday Live Music" and a "Spring Tune-Up Workshop."
