I have just gotten several old Wusthof kitchen knives. Some of the blades are carbon steel (which I think Wusthof no longer makes) and some are stainless. The blades are in fairly good shape, but the black handles are pretty beat up and some are cracked. Does anyone know someone who could put new scale handles on them for a reasonable price? Would either want something comparable to the original or perhaps micarta.

I'd suggest looking at a couple of knifemaking supply companies and selecting the material you want and then just find a local woodshop, cabinet shop etc to glue & rivet them on and sand them down for you. That way they can do one knife and shape the handle until you are happy with it and then do the others to match. If the handles all match then, you can have them make a custom knife block for you as well.

Having said that, if you have a bunch of knives to do you can save a lot of money by buying a 3/8" thick sheet and cutting all the handles out of one piece of stock. I don't know if the above places carry pieces like that anymore but if not google will find the places that do.

Thank you for your suggestions. The sites you suggested certainly look good but I am not sure anyone around where I am is likely to do this type of job. Will do some investigating.
