I have some elephant left over from previous safari..would like some suggestions on use for a knife sheath.

Hey, neat idea! I presume it would need to be thinned a lot, to make it suitable for a sheath, but normal or slightly adapted leatherworking techniques should do after that. But, what do I know from Elephant?
I thought Stingray hide , being from a fish, would be waterproof! Oopsie!

Leather is usually measured in ounces. One ounce equals 1/64" thickness. 8/9 oz. leather is typically used for sheath making and runs between 1/8" and 9/64" thickness, so you would want to have your elephant hide thinned or split to that thickness range. Once that has been accomplished I don't think it would be any different to work than cowhide.
