D A while back I had the opportunity to palaver a bit with Mr. Brett Dowell. He had posted a pix of one of his knives that I really liked on a different forum. I inquired as to whether that particular knife was available. Unfortunately it was a customer order, and IIRC and was not to be had. During our discussion I asked if he worked with 3V. Before I hung up, a Semi-skinner in 3V with ram’s horn scales was on order. Well fast forward a couple months and I get a call from Brett. He mentions that he has a Prototype with African blackwood scales, similar to what I had ordered. I said send it. I messed around with it a bit but did not put it to work. A while later the 3V Ram’s horn semi-skinner showed up. I had the opportunity to give them both a try a couple weeks back. The proto in African Blackwood is CPM 154. here's a short video of one of my bud's removing a loin from a hoglet using the 3V skinner. ya' Both knives are scary sharp. I do believe I prefer the shape of handle on the Blackwood Proto. However the texture of the Rams's horn makes for a more secure grip. That hog fat tends to make a smooth surface somewhat slippery. In retrospect, it seems that the 3V remains a bit sharper after a similar amount of use. Both are sweet blades Thanx Brett. JAPPFT, GWB

Todd, it is what it is. First of all, I enjoy owning an using these fine knives. Second, I enjoy investing in the success of craftsmen such as yourself who craft these fine instruments. I have found that there are quite a few folk that "lurk" rather than post. No matter. I enjoy taking photos. Being able to post here gives me impetus to explore another avenue when it comes to photography. So, it's all good IMHO. Best, GWB

Geedubya, that looks like a very capable, no-nonsense knife for the work you are asking of it. I will have to look up 3V and Bret Dowell. That Black Butte Porter is brewed just a couple of hours from here. Good stuff. That big palm leaf hat -- Sunbody? I like that blade shape. Pretty cutting implements. One does not know until they put a knife in their hand how it is going to feel. Dang I had heard of "Pickled Pigs Feet", but until that picture I had always assumed the were at least washed first. Don't limit your challenges . . . Challenge your limits

Good photo GW and good day out. TC, naw, he was just pickled whilst cutting the feets. ha Todd, the biggest thing makers have to do is education it takes the most time. One of these days Mike and/or I need to post up some photos of using some knives. We have videos etc but I do not know how to post those.

I think the knife forum is the best on the whole site! GWB's offerings to the forum are among the most interesting because he USES the knife in a way that I use a knife. I love to look at, feel, clean, polish, sharpen and use the Hell out of mine. Zeke
