Thinking of picking a Bark River Highland Special. Anyon ehave any experience or comments? I was thinking of the Gameskeeper model, but I like the thinner blade (.170") of the Highland Special. Thanks in advance.

Bark River Highland Special, Green Canvas Micarta BRK131-GC

MSRP Our Price Qty
$114.95
$74.95

Detailed Description
This run is the new thicker Stock A-2. These are .170" thick instead of all the previous runs of .150" thick.

The Geometry is great on these and they cut very well. The Highland design stresses pure, practical, function and performance. The comfortable handle is ergonomically styled to actually be an extension of the user?s hand. The blade to handle relationship increases the angle of contact to the work to maximize cutting performance with minimal hand, wrist and arm movement. In use, the hand is positioned to give superior edge control. This configuration eliminates the need to choke-up on to the blade for fine cutting tasks. This knife is perfect for cutting jobs from very delicate to extremely rugged. Each knife comes with a quality made leather sheath.

The knife features a fully exposed tang. Each blade is precision convex ground to a shaving sharp razor edge. Overall balance is on the first finger so that you can actually feel the edge cut through the work. This knife is the perfect size and weight for any trek in the field. You will find this quick and nimble tool useful for everything from casual hiking or camping to harsh environment hunting trips. Elegant simplicity with pure performance.

That knife has no hilt or way to shop the fingers from going forward? What are you going to use it for?

I've got a prototype huntsman.I really like it alot.My only complaint was the scabbard wich Bark River sent out the new and improved version.Last year in africa a friend of mine who is an outfitter liked it so much I got him one for x-mas.Here it is doing minor surgery.

That this foul deed shall smell above the earth
With carrion men, groaning for burial.

I have a BRKT Fox River - which is a bit bigger.

I love the knife, and really love the customer service I've gotten from them. For example, I got my knife a year ago, and they've changed the sheath significantly since then - so I asked them if I could buy one. They sent a new one free of charge. They warrant everything they sell for life - so if you drop it and chip a scale, accidently push the knife through the sheath, etc., they'll fix it.

They're really good people and they make very nice products. The Fox River compares in performance to much more expensive knives (such as Fallkniven) and is easily as strong - with the added benefit of being prettier.

They're made of A2 steel, which is convex ground and cryo treated - so the edge is very strong and lasts very well. Real cutters. It'll zip through the sternum of a whitetail like a zipper. It's not stainless, but very hard to mark, assuming you take basic care of it.

Recommended without reservation.
