Other than aesthetics, does the rolled edge have any functional basis?

The edge might be stronget due to the fact that the steel has not been opened at the edge and the edge would not chip so easy when splitting wood or other hard chores.
Get one and check it out. You can re-sell the knife easyly if you don't like it.
