I have a Kershaw model 1005 survival knife. I have had it forever and I think I paid a lot for it (forgot how much). Now I want to sell it because I don't use it. Someone told me it is collectable now. It was a fixed blade 9 inch knife with hollow handle fpr storing matches, compass, ect and also has a saw back blade. Anybody know anything about them? Value? History? I am missing the shealth and any accessories. Never allow the perfect to be the enemy of the necessary.

Hollow handle means the tang doesn't extend through the grip. That's a design weakness. Personally, and I own one, I view most of the hollow handle "survival" knives as being sort of gimmicks. The Camillus Air Force survival knife is full tang with a heavy pommel. That said . . . Lacking the original sheath for the knife decreases value considerably. However, Kershaw makes decent stuff, and then when it is discontinued (and they stop making various designs all the time), it becomes somewhat collectible. I have knives that I bought 50 yrs ago. Nothing special, but they're keepsakes. I'd hang on to your Kershaw. It's worth more as a keepsake than anything you might get out of it. "Don't use it any more" is no reason to sell. I have a foot-locker full of knives I don't use. They're a collection, not tools.

shop ebay or gunbroker maybe gunsamerica for your knife. Buyers are moody so there could be a wide range of pricing. If you had an in the box mint knife with papers it would be worth more for sure. But there is always some market for used knives. Nate
