I have been looking around for a tactical kinfe for a while now, but can't really find what I'm after. The strider knives look nice but are real pricey. I am after a simple fixed blade no more than 9.5" overall long with a simple braided cord handle and a small/medium tang, if small preferable serrated to give extra grip and stop the hand from slipping forward. The nearest thing to it might be the cold steel thrower, but is lacka tang of any description. Can anyone here point me in a good direction?

Check out www.swamprat.com and look at their little tanto style knife. This knife is small but very nice and reasonable priced. Mine took about 2 months to get though. CKRT is coming out with a larger version but haven't seen it in person. My favorite tactical style knife by far is the Chris Reeves Green Beret Knife. It's not cheap but superbly made and feels better in my hand than almost any other knife. If you can afford it buy this one and you won't be sorry.....DJ

The knife that seems to fit my description best is the Cold Steel thrower http://www.coldsteel.com/fixed-blades-throwers.html is there any reason this knife would not make a good tactical companion? I see it as an added advantege being able to throw it. Maybe the ede won't be as fine as a normal knife?

I would doubt that it will hold an edge well. But for $30 give it a try.....DJ

Express: For the first, they are heat treated for less hardness and more toughness. I own one. It will not keep good edge (I mean edge good for skining and general work). Second coating is really weak, after throwing it sometimes to wood, it will remove on tip. So when a half of coating was destroyed, I removed rest by myself. When you do that, you will se very bad work on that, I mean it is only forged, there is no finish work. So I finished it by myself. Now, it is shiny polished at it will rust in rain at 5 minutes. So blue its surface and it will be better. But it is still very bad edge keeper, edge is maybe good for wood making in field etc., but it will not cut your bread good. When I count up all that work on that, it was not good choice. Belive me, it is only good for throwing, but I have seen some pieces of that broken. Now, blueing is destroyed too and it is in my car boot in rust on it, I don't use it anymore, it is really unusable . . . I belive you could buy much better knife for that price. Just my experience Jiri

When you throw a knife you: a. Don't have the knife and b. Have just given it to your enemy. Even if you do "stick him" he might last long enough to pull it out and use it on you. Knife throwing is fun but not very practical.
