welding Damascus steel to mild??

Has anyone had any experence with arc welding damascus steel to a piece of mild steel? ( hot roll or cold roll)

My reason for this is: why waste good (expensive) damascus steel by putting it under the handle scales? I want to add a piece of regular steel to the damascus for a full tang.

Thanks

Arc, MIG, or TIG ... works. Nothing special. Bevel the stick tang piece. Be careful to get the stick tang aligned.
