Just curious if anyone found a good load using the Hornady 178 A-max and IMR 4831 in the .300 Winchester. A load for the 168 MK would also be appreciated. Thanks Gabe

IMR4831 is a fine powder, but I just loaded 75grs. of RE22 with the AMAX, 76 being the max with Hornady, and 75.5grs. of RE22 is the most accurate load and powder in the Nosler manual for the 180grain bullets. Jay

papa, try 73 grains of IMR 4831 with that bullet. I'll bet you'll be impressed. The standard 1000-yard Wimbledon Cup load of champions for decades has been something like 68.5 grains of IMR 4350 with a Sierra 180-grain or 190-grain Matchking. This should also work wonderfully with that sleek A-Max and should give you speeds (depending on your barrel) somewhere between 2,900 and 2,950. With the 168, try working your way up to about two grains more of the above powder. Let us know how it all works out for you.

Here's my favorite of all reloads: 168gr Sierra MatchKing WLRM primer 70gr AA3100 Seated 3.340 with light crimp About 2900fps (no chrony) Shoots under 1/2" out of a dead stock A-bolt. Blows me away every time. I'll be testing a 190gr MatchKing with RL-22 and AA-3100 soon. Should do better at longer ranges.
