Well my intentions are always the same when working up loads for my rifles and that is to find a load for an intended purpose for that rifle and caliber that is accurate as can be and then to lay in a supply of that load. I have listed some of my favorites that I am stocking up on right now. Please be advised that these loads are safe in MY RIFLES and may not be safe in yours, use caution with any internet recipes. 22/250, 38 grains H-380, 52 grain Sierra Matchking, I can substitute any 50 to 53 grain bullet with this load and get similar results. .243, 41 grains IMR-4350, 100 grain Sierra Pro hunter or Gameking. .257 Roberts, 41.5 grains IMR-4350, 117 Sierra Gameking. 6.5x55, 44.5 grains H-380, 120 grain Barnes triple shock. With the 120 grain Nosler B.T. I use 44 grains of H-380. With Rem 140 grain Core lockts I use a mild load of 39 grains of IMR-4064. .284 Win 53 grains of IMR-4350, 150 grain Rem Core Lockts. 130 grain Speers use 56 grains IMR-4350. 30/06, 56 grains of IMR-4350, 180 grain Sierra Gameking. .338 Win Mag, 70.5 grains IMR-4350, 225 Sierra Prohunter 9.3x62 62.5 grains Ramshot Big game, 286 grain Norma or 285 grain PRVI. .375 H&H mag, 71.5 grains Reloader 15, 300 grain Barnes triple shock.

Snellstrom, What kind of 6.5x55 rifle are you using? Is this one of the old Swedish Mausers or a modern rifle? I am still on the lookout for a good moderate pressure load for my Kimber modified '96 Carl Gustav. ******************************************************* For every action, there is an equal and opposite malfunction.

Mort my 6.5x55 is a Kimberized 96 too. I have a couple more in the shop for my kids getting new triggers safeties and cock on open kits on them too. All the loads I listed for the 6.5 were worked up in my 96 however I had the headspace tightened up a bit by Mike McCabe on this forum. All loads "SAFE IN MY RIFLE" but you can check them with the book and they are not hot rods. The 39 grains of IMR-4064 with a 140 Rem core Lockt were shot in it before I had the headspace re done. I hope you are enjoying yours I really like mine. My 257 Roberts is a Husqvarna 96 with a solid left side rail (no thumb cut)I am very fond of it too. Both are going with me on a Hog trip next weekend. I just painted the Ramline stock on the 6.5 the other day and I love it, shot it with that textured green paint, nice!

That load of 39 Grains of IMR 4064 is my "Go To" load with 140 grain bullets in my M96. With 140 grain Hornady's it shoots 1 inch or better all day long. That same powder charge works great with the 129 Hornadys also. Bill

Sounds like I need to renew my IMR 4064 powder supply (only a few hundred grains left) and crunch up some loads. The 4064 works well in my 1/4 bore bobs, but I haven't tried it in the Swede. Thanks! ******************************************************* For every action, there is an equal and opposite malfunction.

That IMR-4064 is good stuff! It's been almost forgotten in the flood of newer (and admittedly very good) powders, but it still does the job in an awful lot of cartridges. Snellstrom; have you tried 67 gr. of IMR-4064 behind those 300 gr. TSXs in your .375? I get superb accuracy in three rifles with that load, using WW brass and CCI 250 primers. It's surprising how some loads keep 'coming to the top' in many folks rifles. Your .338 load is one I've used for years, and I back off a half grain from your .30-06 load when I use 180 gr. Nosler Partitions. I've only begun working with the 6.5x55 but I'll bet I end up close to what you've posted, so thanks for the head start!

The 'stockpiling' element brought me back to this thread....yesterday I grabbed a box of .30-06 and headed off to the range. 55.5 gr. of IMR4350 with 180 Nosler Partitions/WW brass/CCI-200 primers was still giving me MOA groups. I noticed the box still had one of those old cross-hatched cardboard inserts, and looking at the back, I realised I had loaded them in June of 1987. It looks like my handloads are good for 22 years on the shelf, at least. That's a good thing, because there are a dozen more boxes of the same vintage, not to mention a stack of .375 H&H! Apparently I had a little time on my hands in June of '87.
