I've got an old 1891 myself. Mine was owned by my grandfather before me and was never sporterized (it has a 29" barrel). It shoots about 3 or 4 inches high at 100 yards and a little to the left. I hunt deer with mine from time to time. My favorite load is as follows: 47 grs. IMR 4350 150 gr. Hornady Spire Pt. (.311") Norma brass Fed 210M primer This does about 2450fps over the chrony. It's not a max load, but I don't want to push the limits with this old gun. This load accounted for a nice 10pt. last year that's at the taxidermist right now. I've got some other powders on hand (like IMR 4064) that I'll be trying out in this rifle one of these days. | ||
