I've used 165's and 180's for the most part, but I did recover a 150 gr. hotcore magtip a few years ago. The deer was shot broadside at about 350 yards through the shoulders and the bullet was under the hide on the far side. The core was intact and the frontal area was about .40 caliber. It retained nearly 60% of its weight. I was a bit surprised, I've never recovered any of the 165 Speers, but their performance was fine.

Can't help you with the 30s but my 270 has always favored the 130 gr Grand Slam. The terminal performance has been consistently excellent for the last 15 years or so on dozens of big game animals. "Experience" is the only class you take where the exam comes before the lesson.

What is the difference between the Grand slam and the normal old hot core? just a protected point?
