My oldest son (12 years) will be taking to the field this year for Whitetails. He will be the third generation to use a 6MM. We have been using the 100 grain with great success, most recently the Hornady BT and the Nosler Partition with equal success fueled by 46.0 grains of H4831. I was wondering what others have found to be great loads.
I had to firelapp the barrel of my 6mm Rem. It now has about 1/4 jump before the bullets hit the rifling, keep this in mind. With a normal throat you should drop back a grain or two. One of my favorite loads (mostly for coyote calling) is the 85gr. Speer in front of 48grs. of IMR4831. Another is the 100gr. Sierra in front of 46.5grs of Imr4831, this is my deer load.
My all time fave for bolt actions (so far) is the 95 gr. Nosler partition ahead of 48 gr. MRP with CCI 250s and R-P cases. Very warm but very effective. Work up slowly! I also like in my 760 Rem., my first deer rifle, 105 gr Speer RN or Spitzer with 42 gr. IMR 4350, CCI 200, R-P cases.

If you are looking to do some reloading then try some loads with Accurate 2520, 2700, and some Hogdon H-380. Accurate has a site that has loads for its powders and loads for the 6mm just do a search for Accuratearms.

I use the 95 grain Partition chased by 49 grains of Norma MRP or the 100 Partition with 1 grain less of the same powder. My 700 Classic shoots both these loads under 1" at 100 meters. They are decisive killers on deer, as long as the shooter does his/her part, i.e. place it in the correct spot! Regards, Eagleye.
6mm: What cartridge are you talking about? Everybody here thinks you are talking about a 6mm Remington. Or is it a 6mm/25acp or is it a 244H&H Mag? Scot: I have a 6mm (a 6mmTCU) but H450 dose not work very well in it. You said it would work in a 6mm. You guys are giveing out load data for a unknown cartridge. People can get hurt when guns come apart.
I am writing for info on the 6MM Remington. Thanks to all of those who have replied so far - definitly many good loads to try. Fat Albert, thanks for asking which shell I was writing about. I look forward to hearing from others on this topic!
Fat Albert; Agree with you that assumptions can be dangerous, but if you checked 6mm's initial post, he gave enough information to let a knowlegeable reloader know that he was shooting the 6mm Remington.Regards, Eagleye.
Eagleye: BULL HOCKY! You jumped on the band wagon with the rest. There is not a single thing that said 6mm Remington in the post. For the information gave it could have been a 6/303 or a 243Win. Whats the name of that KNOWLEGEABLE RELOADER that told you? Nice hearing from you.

Ok, FA, you are correct. But the prudent handloader should always cross reference other's recommendations with reputable reloading manuals or other data to make sure of where to start, WITH the correct caliber, of course.

FA, If you take the time to read my post you will notice I clearly state that my loads are for a 6mm Rem. In your hurry to find fault with people you completely misses this.
My son has filled both his either sex tag and his non trophy tag with the 6MM Remington. His first was a smaller 7 point buck at 300 yards, the second a doe at 75 yards. Both well placed chest shots. The 100gr Hornady BTSP exited both. Even the exit wounds were similar size, about 2inch diameter holes. The buck ran about 60 yards, the doe dropped on the spot. He certainly feels he has found the perfect deer cartridge. I will keep a file with the loads that all of you have suggested. In time he will no doubt load these himself and give them a field trial.
Already looking forward to a grandson (about 25 years down the road) using some of the loads suggested to take his first deer. Again, thanks again for all of the suggestions!
Nothing fancy: 87 grain Hornady, 45 grains 4350, CCI large rifle primers. I've used it in a Ruger #1, a M-77, an FN Deluxe 244, and now a custom G33-40. My favorite round for Texas whitetails.
