I have an M96 Swedish Mauser sporterized by Kimber. For this rifle, I shoot the 140 grain Hornady backed with 44.0 grains of H414 in a R-P case, with Winchter Large Rifle primers. Because of the long throat in my rifle, I only seat them about a caliber deep -- they look like knitting needles, and the cannelure is WAY out in front of the case mouth.

I have used the 140 gr Nosler PT a lot. It was very accurate in my rifle using Norma MRP (49 grains, be carefull and start low, I mean it!) and Vihtavouri N-165 (50 grains, also abs. maximum in my gun) You should expect 1 moa or better accuracy, or something is wrong with your gun/barrel or reloading procedures. Also, I seat bullets at least 0.04 inch from the rifling and you might be better of seating 0.1 inch or more of the rifling, dont seat the bullet close, its unecessary for accuracy. (in this calibre at least) Tron

Vern, according to Hodgdon's newest published data, you are definitely over max.

I am not or overloading but the 6.5x55 original load is mild pressure in a modern rifle with correct chamber ( generally 6.5x55 chamber are very broad ) and with load at the pressure of the 308 WIN you can increase the performance of the 6.5x55 the load give in load manual are for all 6.5x55 rifle even the old mauser swedish built in end of the 19 century so iy=t is normal to have mild load = mild pressure to avoid big or grave problem , but in a modern gun as REM or Ruger with new made case no problem for me to use 6.5x55 at the 308 pressure level I use a wilcat made on 6.5x55 withreal tightchamber tight neck , base and hort throat and get very good performance at long range ( 1000 yards ) . good shooting and load safe DAN TEC

Too late for a response to my question . I got it now . Carcano -- "Those who sacrifice liberty for security deserve neither." "Is the world less safe now than before you declared your Holy war? You bet!" (DUK asking Americans, 14th June 2004)

Hodgdon is also loading the cartridge light on pressures due to older military rifles floating around.... but this load is not over max on a rifle with modern steel metalurgy.. such as a Ruger, and I burn that same load in my 1920 Model Swedish Sniper rifle at times...with 140 grain corelokts seated to the first cannelure...
