Gentlemen
I am converting my 06 to a AI for just a few more
fps. It has been my experience that R22 gives the
most velocity so I need a load for that powder
with a 180 gr NP.

Any help will be greately apprecited.

THANKS in advance
marshall

Loads will vary depending on which case you use. Win brass will likely give the most case capacity. Military brass capacity will be reduced by about2 to 3 grains. Your throat length will have an effect on max loads also. With Win fireformed cases I would suggest you start about 57 grs of RL22 with 180gr bullets. Max will be in the 62 to 63 gr range. I have also found much better results using only std primers NOT mag ,with RL22. Hope that helps

Velocity alone is not necessarily the answer. I have been using IMR 4831 for a number of years in my .30-06 AI with the most incredible results, sub 1/2 MOA. Speciffically the loading matches FACTORY .300 Win Mag velocity and has SD's in the LOW SINGLE digits! In my rifle 58 grs does this magic, but as always work up in your own. R22 could well be the powder of choice for you though.

Marshall,
I also have an '06 imp. and think it's a great cartridge. Mine has a 24" barrel. When I asked my gunsmith before going ahead with this project, the first words out of his mouth were, "Make sure you try RL22 BEFORE you try anything else"!
Good enough for me!
The best load for this rifle so far is:

Winchester case
Win. WLR
64gr. RL22
180gr. Hornady SP (#3070)
I get three shot groups in the 3/4" range every time.
Velocity avg. 2950-2960fps

I fireformed the cases with a 150gr. bullet and a max load of IMR-4064 listed for the standard 06.

I worked up to this load as the only manual that lists this round is the Nosler book. Their max load of 62gr. of RL22 seems a little low to me since their max for the standard 06 is 61gr.
Work up slowly and you should be fine.
Going to try mine on a cow elk in November, can't wait!
