Hey, rnovi, he of the BEAUTIFUL 257 Roberts Remmie Mannlicher!

Yesterday at the range, my
Ruger Mk II Roberts with your go-to load of 44 gr. H4350 came on like a champ with the 117 gr. Sierra spitzer. Thanx for the recommendation. Smiler

The Combined Technology 115 gr. which has only patterned before, shot a 1/2" group. Maybe just a case of the wibbles cancelling out the wobbles, but definitely needing more investigation! Can closing the free travel from .030 to .020 in. do that?

My heretofore My go-to load of 46.5 gr. H4831SC & Speer 120 gr. spitzer showed signs of high pressure...sticky bolt lift, and less than previous accuracy. Passing strange, because I have shot 48.5 gr. in warm weather with absolutely no pressure signs.

Temp was ~78. Wonder what that's all about? The primers were not flat, and were nicely radiused on the edges. Hmmmm...

Anyhoo, a really good day at the range, and thanx for the suggestion. Da Roberts forever! Cool

What kind of groups were you getting?
peter.

Ah, yeees! Inquiring minds might want to know that. Wink Without the deduction of the "official" 1/2 bullet diameter, the best group measured edge-to-edge, was 1 1/8" . Of course, (alibi time) I hadn't been to the range since last November, before it got cold. I thoroughly expect groups to improve with more practice. But if not, I can live with it! thumb

I now have several loads for 115-120gr. bullets that will go very close to an inch...close enough for any normal purpose, like piggies, deer, antelope, and/or the occasional coyote. Smiler

I have the same rifle, totally unaltered in any way. Have you floated the barrel or done anything to it to help accuracy? So far, to make my Rugers shoot close to ONe inch at 100 yds. I have to sand out the barrel channel and float the barrel and get a trigger job.

I have not worked up loads for mine yet but shot some handloads that worked in another rifle but not so good in this one. Thanks, Merg

Yup; glass bedded, floated and trigger job. Maybe just a tad of up pressure? Haven't got that far yet, but a strip of Hobby Foam should work.

CC, glad to hear that the load worked for you! Definitely sounds like you are onto something. Get us a pic or two and post 'em up!

BTW, when I fired these loads I thought the range was 200 yards...turns out it was 220. Big Grin

(PS: and just because I do love this rifle...)

Regards,

Robert
