Ok, I have read through the reloading info on this forum, and have found out that the best powder seems to be IMR 4895 for the M1 Garand...I have bunches of H-varget, and H-335...Will that stuff blow up the M1 Garand, or bend the op. rod? Whats your fav. for the M1? Thanks, Dan

In the M1 or any other auto.. 30-06, the powder of choice 50 years ago was H4895 or IMR 4895, the army after WW2 switched over too IMR 4064, then new, just for the M1 and later M14. It burned cleaner a had the the same pressure level for the ports. Today VARGET and RL 15 are the powder of choices for your auto, again with the same pressure curve. I use VARGET in my 742 and BAR with excellent results. IMR 4895 and H4895 are still excellent powders but tend to be most dirty for the M1, IMR 4064 @ 42.0 with 168 MK-308 Win is the old match load in the M1.. My suggestion go with VARGET and CCI BR2 primers. [ 12-07-2003, 04:11: Message edited by: Alaska Bush Man ]

See the Hornady reloading manual. It has separate sections for (a) 30-06 and (b) 30-06 fired in an M1 Garand.

H-335 or Varget will work fine in the Garand. Good powders are 4895, 4064, N-202, 748
