I have two SW model Nineteen Seventeen revolvers, and what shooting jewels they are. I have shot the AR cartridge in them and found that the AR round has never been given the credit it deserves. Currently, I am shooting two excellent loads that are powerful and accurate. Keep in mind these loads are warm and meant for revolvers only.
The first is as follows. Remington AR round brass, CCI 300 primer, 11.5 grains of Alliant Blue Dot. COAL is 1.252. The bullet is a 225 grain lead flat nose, hard cast. Chronograph velocity average close to 1100 fps. I regularly shoot 2" groups at 25 yds with this load.
The second is just as good. Remington AR round brass. WWLP primer and 230 grain lead copper plated bullet. COAL is 1.268. The powder charge is nine grains of Accurate # 5. Chronograph velocity runs about 1000fps. Groups run about 2" at 25 yds.
both of these loads are warm, but not maximum and safe in my guns with easy extraction and no pressure signs. But work up these loads for your guns!
