After trying only three different powders and 5 different bullet brands/weights, I came upon a dynamite load for my M1. Here are the details:

Winchester brass

WLR primers

175 grain Sierra Matchking

47.0 grains IMR 4064

C.O.L. : 3.340

I've not chrony'ed this load but velocity should be in the neighborhood of 2650 fps. Initial accuracy is 2 to 2-1/2 M.O.A. from position which is about as well as I can shoot a Garand anyway. This load easily holds the 10 ring on an SR-1 target.

Praise be to the Lord, my rock, who trains my hands for war, my fingers for battle.

In the same vein, in my 30M1 Garand 48.5gr - 49.0gr IMR 4064 & Fed 210M primers (48.5gr for warmer summer shooting) with the 168gr SMK shoots very well. As the weather gets cooler, the 48.5gr loads starts to string vertically. Bumping it up to 49.0gr cures that.
I would post some targets but attachments haven't been enabled on my new account here. My rifle usually shoots with 1 - 1.5 MOA accuracy. These same loads shoot very well in the pre-64 M70 also.

Nothing new here. 46-48 grains of IMR 4895 or 4064 and a 155-175 grn HPBT is athe recipe for 30/06 Garands.

Don't waste barrel life by fussing with load development unless you have rebarreled with a match grade tube and fully pressure bedded the action and have carefully tuned rear sights. Then you can get under a MOA with some tweaking, mostly in OAL, but not much else is needed.

Oh, I do mean a full NM front end and parts assemby/adjustment as well (meaning op rod fully clearing everything other than the saddle and right receiver rail... Those are obvious must-dos for an accurized Garand.
