Just purchased a 22-250 rifle along with the components to reload for it. Hornady V-max 50 grain, Win Brass & primers and Benchmark powder. Numbers look great on paper, up to 3903 fps (I believe). Just looking for your experience with this combination. Thanks.

I play a lot with the .22-250. Tried Benchmark and got fair results. I got the best results with H-Varget and H-4895, with Varget being the better of the two. According to Hodgdon, Benchmark was designed for the .223 Rem and simular size cases.
I only shot this gun twice, but the loads look promising w/ these components. With 36 grains of benchmark and 50 grain Vmax, I was getting just over 3800 fps and nearly 1" groups.

Shane : Try Varget , I have shot a 22-250 for over 30 yrs. and here in the last 5 yrs I have tried H380, H335, 4895,and several others. Varget is better than anything I have ever tried .If I was using a Powder and just getting almost Inch groups I would definitely try another Powder. Good luck with Your New rifle , Great caliber Enjoy it . Navarro

Pete: Sorry I haven't got back to You before now , I just got back on this thread tonight and noticed your question. I am using 36gr. of Varget and a 55gr Sie. HP and 36.5 gr with a 50 gr.Sie and 38.5 with a 40 gr Moly. They all stay around 1/2 " with the 40gr Moly at 1/4 ". I have tried the Ballestic tips and they are ok but I'm not excited about them, guess I just like the HP's and soft points. If You will go to http://www.hodgdon.com /data/rifle/22-250 , they will show all these loads for you using Varget powder. A lot of older reloading manuels don't have it . I use it in several calibers I load for and really like it. Good luck Navarro

After almost 90 reloads with this combination, I was unable to shoot much better than 1 1/2" groups with seating depths and powder variencs. I bought some 52 grain Hdy Match BTHP's to try after the first grouping of reloads with Benchmark, one group showed a 1" group. There was alittle wind so I'll have to recheck things for certain. The rifle is a M70 featherweight. Fun gun to shoot. I wrote Hodgdon and they suggested from 32.5 to 34.6 grains of benchmark with the 52 grain bullet. They listed 36 grains as max with the 50 grain Vmax.

I've just got a Rem 700 VS SF II and been doing some reloads. Win brass, CCI Benchrest primers, 40gr moly V Max, Benchmark powder. From 34gr-36.5gr all grouped good @ 100yd's, with some groups better than others. Out to 200yd's things don't look very good. I am finding that I get a lot of flyers at 200yd's. I'm using a gunvice so I don't think I'm pulling it all that much. I'm going to try to find some Varget or IMR3031 with some heavier bullets. I've read several post where guys are having good results with those powders and 50 or so gn bullets. I'm leaving to go on a hunting trip next weekend so times running out on finding the "right" load.

Love benchmark in my savage 223 but it didn't work to well in my rem 22/250 either. The remington likes 10X in it useing 34.5 grs for a 40 BT and 32 grs useing a 50 and 52 gr bullet. One the other hand my savage varmit likes several powders,H380 being the best so far.Varget,IMR 4064,2230-c,IMR3031,10x,tried some H4350 last week and it looks very promising also.
