I'm having good luck with 225g AB using 100.4gr of H1000 and rem cases with fed mag match primers. Use caution think this is near max in my 338rum Sendero 50bmg half inch holes ...... at long range!

I have not tried any 180 grain bullets in .338 caliber, I feel they are a bit light. A messed with a Remington 700 Sendero in 338 RUM and found it to be a great rifle, very accurate. I found a good load for the 200 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip. This bullet has been discontinued and I imagine the replacement 200 grain Accubond will be even better. The load was a Remington case, a Fed 215 primer, 93.5 grains of RL 22 and the 200 BT. The velocity was 3260 fps and the groups averaged 0.68 inches. For the 225 grain Accubond I settled on the following: Remington case, Fed 215 primer, 96 grains of RL 25, and the 225 Accubond. The velocity was 3163 fps and believe it or not, I shot groups as small as 0.37 inches!! Matter of fact, I shot two groups back to back the same afternoon that measured 0.37 inches!! This puzzled me, getting that kind of accuracy with that bullet. I had previously tried it in five other .338 caliber rifles with dismal results. (338 Win Mags and 340 Wby Mags) The 338 RUM is a shooter for sure, but you sure do know when it goes off. Mine loves H1000 and 225 tsx the acubond was ok. I also tried Retumbo and Magnum but the H1000 was much better. You can't kill them setting on the couch.

These posts are three months old so may not get any replies. I'd like to know more about your rifles. Twist, length, total wt of gun. Thanks much to any who may reply. George "Gun Control is NOT about Guns' "It's about Control!!" Join the NRA today!" LM: NRA, DAV, George L. Dwight

George, the .338 RUM that I tested was a stock Remington Sendero. That is a pretty heavy rifle, which is good, that thing recoils pretty serious like. I could shoot maybe 30 rounds off the bench before I started to think about it. The Sendero is listed in the Remington catalog as having a 26 inch barrel with a weight of 8 1/2 pounds. They no longer show the Sendero in .338 RUM but the XCR chambered in .338 RUM has a 10 inch twist. Hope this helps, R F R Flowers

BigJon I have a 338 Rum in a Sendero as well. I have not used any 180 gr bullets in this calibre. Seems a little light for this calibre. I think you will see better long rang performance with a slightly heavier bullet with a better ballistic coefficeint. I have found RL 25 is giving me the best groups in my rifle with 250 and 225 gr bullets. The 250 gr sierra Spit BT is very good for long range work. The 225 gr Horn Interbond is good but will not group as well in my rifle as the Sierra. The 210 gr Barnes TSX is very accurate in my rifle. Both RL 22 and RL 25 produce good groups with top velocities. If you insist on shooting light bullets I would suggest you give the 210 TSX a try. I am also working with the 225 TSX and RL 25 and things look promising. If you choose to play with the 180 gr bullets I would suggest you try RL 22. Hope that helps.
