Hi All...Thanks to all who responded re loads for the .308......
This is what I have done so far....I have determined that the distance from the bolt face to the point where the OGIVE of Nosler 165gr. Partition Bullet contacts the rifling in my 308 Win. Ed Brown Marine Sniper is 2.800"....soooo... my O.A.L. cannot exceed 2.800"....NO..??
How far back from the rifling should I seat..??
.025"....010".....030"...????
Thanks..
pete

Pete, I'm confused. Your measurement is from the bolt face to "the start of the rifling".

The important measurement is from the bolt face to the point where the rifling first contacts the ogive of the bullet. Just because the rifling "starts" at 2.780" doesn't mean that the pointy bullet is making contact at that point.

Since the Ed Brown Marine Sniper was designed for use with rounds like the M118LR, I would imagine the desired OAL with the 165 gr. Nosler partition should be right around 2.800".

Magazine length of the Ed Brown Marine Sniper is 2.850". I'd recommend starting at 2.800" and moving longer at .01" increments.

There are several methods for determining the proper OAL for your rifle/chosen bullet. But I'm not going into that here until I know how you determined that 2.780" measurement.

So, if I understand you correctly, with an OAL of 2.800 your bullet is touching the lands?
Reduce OAL by .005, choose your powder, and run your ladder.

Thank You Antelope Sniper.....YES..the Nosler 165gr. Partion OGIVE just touches the lands at 2.800" O.A.L. OK..will atart at 2.795" O.A.L. Am not having good accuracy with Ramshot TAC...am going to try Lapua Cases...FED 210 Match Primers...and Varget(41, 42 & 43 Gr. to start off) this weekend...

EUREKA......!!!!!!! BEST HANDLOADS TO DATE.....THANK YOU, ANTELOPE SNIPER.....To be honest, I never handloaded for this rifle before....I shot Fed Factory 150gr Ballistic Tips...that factory load shoots .6" at 100yds. and has accounted for 7 whitetails so far...BUT...due to New Jersey NOT having a Black Bear season for the last 15yrs. these critters are all over the place and have spilled over into southeast NY and Northeast PA......my hunt partner had a 300lb. female come up on him 40yds. away....he got sooo nervous it took 4 shots from his 45/70 with 300gr Hornady factory ammo.....soooo... I figured I needed a heavier bullet for my 308..
The rifle is as follows...Ed Brown Marine Sniper...built in 2000... 24" KREIGER BBL...Remington Varmit Countour....Ed Brown does not currently offer KREIGER BBLS anymore...JEWELL TRIGGER and Swarovski PV 4x16 scope with standard crosshairs....the fliers in target #1 & #3 are my fault...I called 'em...New Lapua Cases...FED 210 Match Primers...Varget Powder at 41, 42 & 43gr...OAL 2.790"...ten - thousandnths back from the 165gr Nosler Partition OGIVE touching the rifling.....Thanks to all for your help....Pete
