Does anyone have any 24" barrel length accurate loads for the 300 WSM using 150/165 Barnes XLC bullets? I just got this caliber and would like to stay with the new coated bullets and temp insensitive powders. Have H 4831, 4350, Varget, and ramshot's Big Game. Also RE 19,22 and a wide range of IMR's.

I will post my results here also. I have already found out that Lee's AutoPrime will not accept these large cases without a little Dremel modification to the framework! This was also verified with Lee. I also found out that Norma Brass is too tight in the primer pockets - almost impossible to prime by hand - they are also less concentric and larger in the (unfired-new) case diameter. ---AND--- there is more variation in case weight and length (not directly coorelated)in the NEW/untrimmed cases as opposed to Winchester.

I also just started working with the .30 WSM and incountered all sorts of small problems I had not thought about. As you mentioned the auto prime tool will not accept this fat case. Secondly, my powder funnel would not fit over the case and lastly I had no cartgage boxes that would accept the case. As mentioned these are all small problems and I am working through them. On a good note it looks like this is going to be an excellent shooter. Groups ran from 1.1 in. down to .6 in. Ill refin the better loads and go back out next week. Jim.

I also had those problems but, I fixed them real fast. I used my dremel w/ the sander bit to round out the auto-prime and I used the same thing to round out my shell holder(It is homemade). You can cut your funnel shorter but, it makes it harder to use w/ other cases. You can also heat your funnel until the case will slide in. I found some plastic tubing that was the size of my cases, cut the funnel short, and fastened (taped) the extension onto the funnel. All of this has worked great, I even like my funnel better than ever now for all of my cases.

Good Luck!

Got out yesterday myself - to break in my barrel. Was using 60 gr.IMR 4350 - 210M primer - Nosler 168 Match. I just dropped the loads and seated to 2.8 COL in new Win Brass, just chamfered. Shot 4 rnds -cleaning after each - no copper. Shot 4 rnds - cleaning after 2 shot - still no copper. Shot 6 rnds - cleaning after 3 - still no copper.

Moved target to 100 yds shot 5 more - cleaning revealed no copper fouling at all. Shooting was done with 10-15 wind off bipod and rear bag through a Trashco (gonna have to replace that & Rings too)! Group was .85. BTW the range I was at is in a hole cut uphill out of a big bank, so the wind swirls a lot too.

I was surprised by how deep I had to seat bullets to get the 2.80 length, but the thing shows promise. Gun is a Savage Tactical without Accutrigger in B&C stock.

Next step is to neck size & "properly" prep cases and load some XLC's. Probably will start with Big Game powder. Will post results when I am able to get out again.
