Howdy,
I am new to the 280 round table. Since I read the post on 280 and no one wants my new Mnt rifle DM, I have decided to keep it and make it a shooter. If anyone out there has Dies brass or bullets they may part with, Please let me know. Ideas for loads out of a 22" mnt rifle?
Thanks

Nav, RP brass can be had in bulk cheaply from Midway. RCBS makes inexpensive dies.
I like shooting 160gr bullets over IMR7828 in my M70, although I have been getting great groups with the 145gr Speer GS & H4831sc lately. If I were deer / antelope oonly I would go w/140-150gr bullets @ just under 3000fps. My .280 is also pressed into service as a backup elk rifle so I like the 160grNP @ 2850fps. Any of the 4350, RL19 & either of the 4831s work well w/ 150 & lighter bullets. For the 160-175gr bullets, go to RL22 or IMR7828 for better velocities. Good luck w/ your M700. I wish they still made the non DM mtn. rifles.

Navigator,

If you read the entire 4-page thread you will find a lot of good ideas.

To sum up a few things I wished I'd known before I started --

RL-22 is a great powder in mine. H4350 and H4831SC also gave good accuracy but only RL-22 achieved "book" velocities.

I've also learned a lot from using a Case Master concentricity gauge.

For instance, I would buy Winchester brass -- I bought 500 rounds of Remington and reject about 20% of cases for uneven neck thickness. (I still use them for plinking.) I'm told Winchester is more consistent.

Also experiment with which bullets seat straight -- starting with good, straight brass and even case necks, I get much less bullet runout with 139-gr. Hornady SPs than with 140-gr. Partitions.

Hey, Fredj338. Coincidence!! I get 2882 FPS, chrono'd, from my Rem. 725 22" .280 Rem., with the 160 gr. Nosler Partition. My many years' load for that bullet is 54.0 grs. IMR4350, CCI L.R.primers, and Rem. brass. It shoots 3/4" consistently when I do my part, hot or cold, rain or shine.

I haven't any idea how many game animals I've killed with that load, but they include elk, Mule, Whitetail, and Blacktail deer, antelope, and Black bear.

That .284 160 gr. Nosler Partition is a mighty fine bullet!!

Leanwolf, I seam to run into pressure problems w/ the 160/IMR4350 combo before I can break 2850. IMR7828 works so well in my .280, I am not really trying anything new now. I have been getting 2850fps+ & some really great 300yd groups from my whippy 23"bbl. The rifle weighs less than 7.5# ready to hunt.
