Who has a good load for the 308 with h4895 powder. my gun seems to like the 150 grain pills the best. I am open to all loads and weight bullets using h4895 powder. I am shooting a remington VTR with a 12 twist.
Thanks in advance

I load for a friend; same rifle as you. We tried the 168 MK with Varget, TAC, H4895, 4064 and I forgot. The H4895 was he best. We ended up with the max charge listed in the Hodgdon annual manual, Black Hill or Winchester brass, CCI LR primers, seated to 2.8". He gets consistent 5-shot groups inside 5/8" down to 3/8".

Use the Lee neck die along with the Redding body die followed up by the Redding Comp seater die. Nothing fancy, just accurate.

Oh, and the best part. These are not weighed but "thrown" from my Harrell's Premium powder measure. Saves SOOOO much time!

My Ruger 308 likes 44 grains of 4895 under a 150 grain Hornady SP and Winchester LR primer, all in a Lapua case. Not a blistering fast load @ 2720fps, but very accurate, and the deer I have taken don't like it much. BTW, all my loads are partial full length sized.

Hoggunner --

Both H4895 and IMR4895 are great .308 Win powders.

Sorry I don't have a H4895 load but I do have a light recoiling, always accurate, always reliable whitetail load with H4895's stepbrother, IMR 4895. While the two powders are NOT INTERCHANGEABLE, the burn rates are similar. I would be comfortable trying this load with either IMR or H4895 as it is at or near the starting loads for both powders in most manuals. This load shoots about 1/2 inch in my stock BDL. And shoots just as well or better in several other rifles of friends.

45.5 g IMR 4895
125 g Sierra Pro-Hunter #2120
Fed Match brass
Fed 210 Match Primers

OAL varies per rifle - We load it .01 in off the lands.

I can't remember the FPS, and failed to record it, but I think it was about 2800 fps. Very soft recoiling, too.

FWIW, I have become a big fan of 125 grain Pro-Hunters for whitetails. When I feel the need for speed I load the 125 g Sierras in .30-06 with a high capacity load of the same powder. I won't share that load because it may not be safe in all guns, but I chrono'd about 3300 fps. It's not what I'd call a soft recoiling load but not as hard as say, my 180 g Woodleighs over H4831sc, and it's fast and flat... And deadly on whitetails and groundhogs... out to over yonder. I haven't shot anything else with it.

I have a representative, half inch at 100 yards target scanned but I don't know how to post it. If somebody would give me idiot proof instructions ... maybe ... with God's grace ... I could figure it out.

Anyway, hope this helps.

No Plea

I haven't tried 4895 in my Browning .308 rifle but I am receiving great accuracy using IMR-4064 with a 150 grain Hornady Spire Point. I'll certainly look into buying some 4895 when I run out of my current powder.

I bought 24 lbs of surplus 4895 thinking it was H 4895 but turned out more like IMR 4895.Either works well in a 308.
