Any suggestions for either of these? I have some Hodgdon data for the 9.3 but that's all. I plan on starting with the Speer 270 and the 7mm 160.
Thanks, Peter.

on the 9.3x74r mybest load has been 65 gr of old H4831 w/either a 286 gr or the 300 gr a frame. both shoot to the same impact and to the same impact as RWS or norma factory. Secondary load has been with 54 gr of RL-15 and the same bullets

Pete,

I don't load the 9.3x74R but I do for the 7x57R and I've tried many 7mm bullets in the 7x57R finally whittling down a huge list to four loads I'm currently using.

I use VV N-160 or VV N-560 in most of the loads now because that's what I can obtain easisest but IMR-4350, H-4350 & H-4831 have worked well for me also.

As for bullets I'm currently using the Barnes 120 gr. TSX, 140 gr. Nosler Partitions, 154 gr. Hornady Round Nose and 177 gr. RWS TIG's. I've had great hunting success, ammunition performance & superb accuracy with all of them. Each bullet/load has its own niche but for the game I'm shooting most at the moment I tend to the Barnes & Hornady's.

With the combinations above there is plenty of data available to develop some great shooting ammunition tailored to your particular rifle and hunting. The lighter bullets tend to some good speeds but the heavier bullets; even with their "slow" velocity (by today's standards) have fantastic penetration.

Cheers,

Gerry, thanks for the response. The problem I am having is there is NOT plenty of data available. The best I have seen is "use the 7x57 load data, reduce it by 10-15% and start there". Can you give me some specifics about your loads, perhaps via PM? None of the powder manufacturers have data specifically for the 7x57R, at least, not that I have seen.
Thanks, Peter.

Peter,

Like Gerry, who I ocassionally shoot with, I have not reloaded the 9.3x74R but have for the 7x57R.

I have settled on the 150gr Nosler Partition and the 154gr Hornady. I have used the Hornady 139gr also.

Specific load info is: (remember start low and work up)

139gr Hornady, 45.0gr IMR 4350 ~2500fps
150gr Nosler, 46gr IMR 4350 ~2600fps
154gr Hornady, 46.5gr IMR 4350 ~2550fps

This should get you in the ball park.

Nevadan, thanks very much. It is interesting (to me) that you both are reporting bullet weights that are lighter than the bullet weights typically used in the 7x57 (Mauser) which seem to be at the heavier end of the spectrum eg. in the 160-175 range. Have you tried the heavier bullets? I ask because I also have a 7x57 Mauser (CZ).
Peter.

Peter: Should you find Vihtavuori powder, here is their reloading manual with loads for both calibers: http://www.lntrade.dk/pdfdoc/Vihtavuori_ladedata.pdf

Thanks JTH. I found the VV manual but it not have the Metric data in it. This seems to be a whole separate manual.
