Interested in any loads you might have. This was going to be a 25-06 but the mauser action was one of those shorter ones so 257 AI was the way to go. Be interested in any good, bad or otherwise about the 257 AI.

Thanks in advance...

cgdavid,
My gun likes the 100 gr. Nosler BT with 49.5gr. IMR 4350, OAL=2.965" Rem. cases and win WLR primers. I get 3275fps in a 24" Rem 700 Classic. The 100 BT works like lightning on antelope! I will be trying some loads with RL22 and the Hornady 117SST as soon as I can get back to the range. I'm hoping for 3100fps which should make for a great deer load. I will post results, good or bad! I haven't had the chance to work up a varmint load but I have some 75gr. V-MAXs to play with some day. If anyone has a load for those little pills I would love to see it!

The best load I have is 100gr Nosler Partitions with 53gr of Reloader 22 in Win cases and Win primers. It gets 3360fps in my rifle. 49 gr of IMR 4350 groups just as well but the speed is a little slower at about 3200 fps. My rifle likes 100gr bullets over the 115 to 120 grainers for some reason. Good shootin.

Thanks everyone...

Do any of you know of any sights where there is a lot of discussion on the subject of the 257 Bob? Seen others dedicated to rounds like 6mm AI and the 243 AI but none for the Bob....

curt,
if you can find some NORMA MRP, try that in your ACKLEY. it really wakes this cartridge up. believe it or not mine goes a tad over 3,600fps with a 100gr. bullet.271/2"barrel.and shoots under1/2" at that velocity. i have two REMINGTONS in this caliber . if you can find MRP start about 52gr. and work up from there.

dale, and anyone else reading this. the 100gr.SIERRA is an excellent bullet in the .25's or any other caliber for that matter. they kill deer extremely well. NOSLER PARTITIONS have their place, but why pay twice as much for half as many?

I use Hornady Interlocks in mine. I used the Nosler BTs for a deer and an antelope and they looked like they were too close to a bomb when it went off! And they are accurate too, I dropped a coyote at 275 paces with an interlock over 43.8gr of IMR 4350.

While on the subject....

I hear that Lapua makes 7x57 brass but its not sold in the US. Anyone have ideas one what to make good 257AI brass from? Anyone know where to get Lapua 7x57? I'm using Winchester 257 +p and it seems ok but I kind of got spoiled using Lapua brass in a 6br.

Thanks again...

cgdavid,
The loads I posted previously are for the 257AI!
Sorry I didn't make that clear. Sometimes I wonder if I would have been better off with a 25-06, but every time I go to the range and look at the group sizes and then the chrony....who needs one??
The antelope in Wyo. and CO don't think so!

I made it to the range the other day. I will be permanently retiring the 100gr. Nosler BT load for the new load of 53gr. RL22 and the Hornady 117 SST. The Rem 700 Classic put three shots into .695" @100 yds. I didn't get a chance to chrony these loads but this is a max load and should be well over 3000fps. Antelope and deer beware!!!
