I have access to a 200 yard range. I am planning on visiting a range where I can shoot at 300 and 600 yards. Where/how can I find out what scope adjustments (MOA) I should make from a 200 yard zero, in order to at least be on paper at 300 and 600 yards? I will be taking my Savage 110 FP (223) using 69SMK's, and my Rem 700BDL (HB) in 308 using 150 gr. SMKs.
Thanks, Peter.

pete, there are too many varibles with too little information.
You really need a muzzle velocity for each load and bullet weight. also the bullet BC
Example;
A69gr bullet loaded at 2900f/s with a -0- sight in at 100yrds will have a velocity of 1000f/s at 600 yrds. drop will de aprox -180"
MOA will be about -25
your scope must be capable of 25moa of adjustment.
Shootin long range can get interesting.

Thanks Dave. The BC's are readily available as these are Sierra MatchKings and I have them. The velocity I will have to estimate as, to be quite honest, at this point in time I dont want to set up the chronograph! My aim is really just to get on the paper without expending too many rounds, and I certainly dont expect to just dial in the scope adjustments and be in the X ring!. I have seen the bullet drop information you mentioned. What I need to do is to translate that into MOA adjustments. Your comment about range of adjustment is interesting as one of the things I intend to find out is whether I will need to buy the "long range" scope bases. How did you arrive at the estimate of 25 MOA? I have seen tables where they would have a 100 or 200 yard zero, but still show a MOA figure for that setting. I was not sure what they meant. Best I can find so far is, for a 200 yard zero, I will still need about 15 MOA for the 308 and about 12 for the 223. Does this make sense?
Peter.

here is a calculator plug in the numbers and see what you get.
Adjustment in MOA is determined by the graduations of the scope in number of clicks. scopes adjust in 1/4" moa per click = 4 clicks /Moa ,,or 1/8"=8 clicks /Moa.
sight in at 100, 200 ,300 etc, the example was for 100yrds and a come up of about -25MOa.if you have a scope with 1/4" moa then you will need to come up 100 clicks to be on target at 600 yards.
its better to think in moa than in clicks.
get a spotter with a good set of nocks or a spotting scope have the spotter set up behind you if he sets the scope a little out of adjustment he will be able to see the vapor trail down range a estimate where the bullet will impact.
also if you can see the point of impact of the bullet set the rifle back into the bags on the same point of hold then adjust the scope to the point of impact.

Dave, thanks for the link to biggameinfo! Exactly what I needed. Once I have the real world info. I can make up my own range card. You are correct about thinking MOA rather than clicks as one of my scopes is 1/8 clicks.

You may find this website helpful too.

It has a database of bullets so you need only select the bullet, velocity, and a few other parameters and you get a nice printable page with drop and drift info up to 2000 yards if desired:
