Looking for a starting place to work up a .223 load with heavier bullets (60-70 gr.) for 1 in 9 twist barrel. Want to work up a match load for paper. What works for you? Bullet type, powder, A.O.Length, primer. Your imput appreciated.

Jbok,

Good choice. A one in 9 will shoot up to the 75 grains pretty well. Mine is a bolt gun, so this info applies to that.

My choice are Hornady 75 grain Hollow Points, followed by their 75 grain A Max. I use Lake City surplus cases via Cabelas ( where I also buy the bullets, because of their real good price on them). I use Remington 7 1/2 primers.

Powder choices are RL 15 first at 27.5 to 28 grains. Second choice is H 380 at 27.5 to 28 grains. Velocity in my 24 inch barrel on my Ruger is right at 2950 to 3000 fps. I have a Weaver 4 x 16 scope on the Ruger, and a PacNor barrel with a 1 in 8 twist. This combo has shot multiple one hole groups at 200 yds from a rest.
In this accomplishment, I am praising the rifle, much more than the shooter. I reworked the factory trigger myself.

I have tried the 80 grain bullets along with the 77s, from Nosler. Based on price, since I like to shoot these a lot, nothing has bettered the performance of the 75 grain Hornadys and the 69 grain Sierras.

Good Luck !

I have a 1 in 12 Ruger Ultra-Lite that I have tested a 60 grain PSP in. It gives me a 5/16 inch group at 100 yards.
60 grain Hornady bullet with 25.0 grains of Winchester 748.
