I've been shooting Sierra 165 and 180 grain bullets and IMR4350 for about 40 years, a proven killer for me.

150 grain bullets and 52.2 grains 4064. I started with this load and for years and years heard 4350 was THE powder. Tried it and my rifle shoots the 4064 better.

Every one of my bolt 06's loves 57.0 g IMR 4350 and a 165 grain bullet.

One prefers Partitions, one A frames, the third TTSX. All sub MOA.

Hard not to like the 06.

For years I used 4064 and never a complaint, same with 4350..but they don't flow too well through the powder measure as you get some cutting which is a pain in the kazoo IMO..

H414, with similar burning rate gets me considerably more velocity and better accuracy in both of my 30-06s, and the ones that come through and out the door that Ive tested..I really like H414 powder. Not to mention that I no longer weigh but perhaps every 20th round..Tests I did with my powder measure never showed any charges to vari one bit all hit the mark, won a hundred dollar bill off a buddy of mine on that with 100 tossed loads in the pan then weighed on the scale.

180gr Nosler Accubond with max load of RL-17 - in my rifle it will put 5 bullets into a ragged hole at 100yds and chronographs at an average velocity of 2903fps. This load was posted by M98 a while back and he even went as far as having the load pressure tested.

Only tested in one 06, 55 IMR 4350 and 165, proven on paper, but untested on game, as I have no volunteers when carrying that gun with this load.

Hornady 165 SP pushed by a dose of milsurp equivilent H380 seem to take the starch out of a 180 lb (field dressed) MO WT last Nov (2109)

Nice thing about the old 06, you can load it with about any powder and any bullet and it works..

56.2 grains of H4350 168 gran TSX. Shot great in 3 30-06s. Slightly over book max but remember a 30-06 is SAAMI maxed at 60K and every modern 30-06 is the same rifle as every modern 270 win which is 65K.

~2825 out of 22" bbls.

Never under estimate the internet community's ability to reply to your post with their personal rant about their tangentially related, single occurrence issue.

What I have learned on AR, since 2001:
1. The proper answer to: Where is the best place in town to get a steak dinner? is…You should go to Mel's Diner and get the fried chicken.
2. Big game animals can tell the difference between .015 of an inch in diameter, 15 grains of bullet weight, and 150 fps.
3. There is a difference in the performance of two identical projectiles launched at the same velocity if they came from different cartridges.
4. While a double rifle is the perfect DGR, every 375HH bolt gun needs to be modified to carry at least 5 down.
5. While a floor plate and detachable box magazine both use a mechanical latch, only the floor plate latch is reliable. Disregard the fact that every modern military rifle uses a detachable box magazine.
6. The Remington 700 is unreliable regardless of the fact it is the basis of the USMC M40 sniper rifle for 40+ years with no changes to the receiver or extractor and is the choice of more military and law enforcement sniper units than any other rifle.
7. PF actions are not suitable for a DGR and it is irrelevant that the M1, M14, M16, & AK47 which were designed for hunting men that can shoot back are all PF actions.
8. 95 deg F in Africa is different than 95 deg F in TX or CA and that is why you must worry about ammunition temperature in Africa (even though most safaris take place in winter) but not in TX or in CA.
9. The size of a ding in a gun's finish doesn't matter, what matters is whether it’s a safe ding or not.
10. 1 in a row is a trend, 2 in a row is statistically significant, and 3 in a row is an irrefutable fact.
11. Never buy a WSM or RCM cartridge for a safari rifle or your go to rifle in the USA because if they lose your ammo you can't find replacement ammo but don't worry 280 Rem, 338-06, 35 Whelen, and all Weatherby cartridges abound in Africa and back country stores.
12. A well hit animal can run 75 yds. in the open and suddenly drop with no initial blood trail, but the one I shot from 200 yds. away that ran 10 yds. and disappeared into a thicket and was not found was lost because the bullet penciled thru. I am 100% certain of this even though I have no physical evidence.
13. A 300 Win Mag is a 500 yard elk cartridge but a 308 Win is not a 300 yard elk cartridge even though the same bullet is travelling at the same velocity at those respective distances.

I am searching for an IMR 4350 load for a 165 gr bullet and note your experiences here.
Am I right in saying that these are relatively mild loads, though 2800 fps is fast?
Hodgdon Reloading states higher charges. See https://www.hodgdonreloading.com/data/rifle

I would agree the loads above are relatively mild, though still reasonable. I have long used 57.0 grains of IMR 4350 with 180 grain Nosler partitions in many different 30.06 rifles. I also load 57.5 grains of IMR 4350 under 168 gr Barnes TTSX. This is a compressed charge, and about all you can get in the case reasonably. You could probably load more if you used a lead core bullet.
IMR 4350 is the go to powder for 30.06 and most hunting weight bullets. You really can't go wrong.
